Server Status / Re: torrent tracker, invalid data, 2008-03-29

With or without intention: it's fixed now and the torrent is working as usual.

Server Status / torrent tracker, invalid data, 2008-03-29 [fixed]
« on: March 29, 2008, 08:59:22 pm »
The torrent is not operating correctly. I have it open most of the time since version 0.4 was released and it was working fine. It showed me how many seeders and leachers were in the system alltogether and my torrent client (KTorrent, linux) showed "OK" as a status.

However, since a couple days (somewhere near this server outage: http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=32034.0) i get "invalid data received from tracker" as a status and don't see how many leechers and seeders there are.
I still have some clients loading stuff of my computer from time to time, but this might also be because of some trackerless abilities of some clients.

I can ping laanx.fragnetics.com and even connect with the game client. Other torrents fromdifferent servers seem not affected (2 other servers a the moment).
My guess is that this might have something to do with a server restart and some data/settings that were not reset correctly.

Is the torrent working correctly for others?

Linux Specific Issues / Re: Error : missing files?
« on: March 29, 2008, 07:42:32 pm »
Er guys, are you actually sure that is the reason why the games doesn't run? And if it is fixed in SVN, won't it be available through the updater eventually?

There should be more to check before a completely new user needs to build his own client..

If you are the person paying the money then there should be some way to enforce some change with that kind of censorship.

Anyways, how did you realize that planeshift was blocked. If it was just a "failed" while trying to log in, then it is also quite possible, that the server was just offline.

if you really want to see it as the same account, just use the same username and password..

Complaint Department / Re: Gugrontid Blockade
« on: March 26, 2008, 03:52:22 pm »
Well, I was not involved in the event but here are my ideas about this:

Having events like that is important for an interesting experience with the game.
They should be organized appropriateley and with the help of officials. This would inlcude sombody playing NPC guards, creating chars (and possibly building stats) just for the event of which some get punished and are not used for a while afterwards. If they were specifically made and the stats were set directly for the event (no month of leveling) then it wouldn't be a problem to let them disappear again. Just like creating monsters, only that they are controlled by persons.

I don't know exactly, but I think this is tecnically already possible. I mean there are already events, but for such big events one problem might be, that we don't have enough GM or trustworthy people to steer these created bandit chars.

Doing these events with a char you invested quite some time and then trying to play with it as a main char afterwards is difficult. Yes, you have outlaws in real life, but the really bad ones normally get caught after some time.

This is no real complaint about Izzy or something, rather how I would like big events like that to be handled eventually. You can't just do things like as player events because NPCs etc. have to be ACTIVELY involved.

Linux Specific Issues / Re: Cant find screenshots directory
« on: March 26, 2008, 02:19:44 pm »
Does the folder ~/.PlaneShift/ exist at your computer? (The same like the other one mentioned, but a different way to get it)
If so, is there anything in it? If so, then what?

Are you searching for files you saved in this version (0.4) or files you save in the versions before that?

Did you talk with NPCs yet and/or made own notes for quests? Did you take screenshots yet?

It doesn't list Planeshift (of course), it only works on windows and it messes with some Active X/Java WITHOUT the normal securityoptions (firefox warns you about that, I hope IE does that too)
=> I don't like this thing and I wouldn't trust just any website to do things like that.

For people that want to try it anyways: with downloading that applet you give this applet the permission to mess with things on your computer, which normal Java doesn't. Just as a warning, but otherwise: feel free to try it.

There are better ways to get your system stats on you OS. Maybe we should make a thread about that instead.

General Discussion / Re: The Crystal itself as a "religion"
« on: March 20, 2008, 04:16:31 pm »
Whom would you worship, the god that created you/guided your race or a stone? Of course, the stone.

In RL there are/were religions were the sun (the crystal equivalent) was the center of religions. Though some of them thought of the sun as a representation for a god, which is somewhat the same for me. The "stone" can be seen, a creator would be imagination. Although Talad is coming to Yliakum from time to time as I heard..

Nothing wrong for me with a "simple" religion for the crystal itself.

Maybe it's just me, but Could you explain why a guild house is a TRANSPORTABLE shop for INDIVIDUALS?

I probably didn't sleep enought, but to me this makes NO sense.

On mac you dont have to run it as sudo/root/su and these instructions will not help you in doing that. Try reading all the stickies and see if any of the suggested fixes there help.

You are also not supposed to run it as root on linux, but you had to do that without update (as far as I remember) and if the update messes up the perms (which it still does) you can possibly run into problems again so you might have to do that.
But seems like it is different on Mac.

@Bodhi:
lagom ;-)

Well not exactly where I would search for these things (installation and changelog), but I admit: I did read both of them at some time.  :whistling:

Maybe it is time to go to bed.. 9 in the morning already here..

You guys should make that a sticky or save that in some FAQ or similar.

For me the paths are straigtforward (at least for my system), but it seems that many users don't know their system well.

Er - I can't find a mac HowTo right now. I am not using a Mac often but I try to help a little:

open a console window (You find that somewhere under system tools/programs or similiar, I forgot the right name).

in there you type
Code: [Select]
sudo psclient or
Code: [Select]
sudo planeshift (I am not completely sure if you have to put the whole path because a certain part of the installer might be broken at the moment and I also don't know where the game gets installed on mac..)

If it asks for a password, use you own account password. (This is how it works usually, when you have a normal install and use the "normal" user)

If that doesn't work, I hope a "real" Mac user can help you  :-[

Did you try running as root with sudo? Yes, might be obvious since you read everything, but this solves many issues.
