Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game / Re: OpenGL Error
« on: November 01, 2010, 09:03:02 pm »
Normally Opengl is provided by your graphic card driver. I am not sure which OS you are using but if it is linux, you might have to download the driver for your graphics card from the internet and install it. Graphic card drivers are closed source, so some linux distributions don't include them, that's why you have to install them manually. But it would be helpful to know if you are using windows or linux or a mac

I know Zakrei, and I think his name is an anagram... happy character shuffling:P

Hello Orgonwukh, nice to see that you still hang around in the forums.
Yup, I was just too lazy to come up with a good name, so I used an anagram of my own name, more or less :whistling:.
I am sorry for bugg720 but I think Zakrei has earned himself his name, although he does not seem to be hero enough to have earned a second name. Maybe he would have to save a princess or drink five mugs of beer without passing out drunk on the floor. But he might ask his mom about the name one day.

P.S. many thanks to Sen (/me humbly bows), but honestly there are much better roleplayers than me out there (way to many to name them all here, but you know who you are), I simply react mostly to others. Without them I couldn't do anything.

Linux Specific Issues / Re: Error with laucher screen = plugins missin'?
« on: October 03, 2010, 10:48:07 pm »
It's a bit a shot out of the blue, but when you look at your pslaunch.cfg file, what screen resolution is set ?  I have Video.ScreenWidth = 1024 and Video.ScreenHeight = 768. Maybe you can change these values manually to fit your screen. About the plugins, I get the same error, but that doesn't seem to be a problem. If the setup thing does not work, you could also start the game with ./psclient.

This is very sad news. Zakrei met Lolitra a few times and she was always very kind to him. He (and OOC me ) will miss her.

All the best

Have to tried to start the game with  ./psclient  ? I also crash when I use ./pslaunch.
But I can use ./pslaunch --console for updates. But when I want to start the game,
I start it directly via psclient. Maybe that helps with your problem too

Personally I like the quests with some story behind them.
Uhm. If you have time I'd like to know more about this. I feel there's a deep message on this. Every quest has a story, so I think you want to say "some kind" of story. I understand that you prefer "hints" over than "obvious direction". And maybe you want to say also something else.

Sorry, I wasn't really clear on this thought. What I liked about this quest, was the twists and the little things. Some quests are like "I need this or that, please fetch it", and some are like the ones with Lucky, you start by looking for a missing husband and end up with solving a murder mystery. And the character of Lucky sounds interesting, it would be fun to have him visit Kada Els for a drink or two (or spill them over some guests  ;)) or to have Allelia gossiping a bit about him. During the quest, the story around Lucky develops, you hear some things about him, and the plot is fun. Another example are some quests with Zak, where you get to know a bit more about his background.

P.S: Many thanks to all the people who come up with the ideas for quests and who implement them  \\o//

Personally I like the quests with some story behind them. Like for example, the quest where Lucky (the butcher ?) gets in trouble with the law ( i hope I did rememeber the name, I did this quest looooong time ago). It's nice, because a story develops with time, you don't have to run too much, except when you want to earn extra credit, which is a nice feature too. In this quest, you get small hints, who to talk to. I think, this is also a nice feature. It may often be enough to give smaller hints like  "the last time I saw him, he wanted to get his knife sharpened", instead "he went to Harnquist to get his knifes sharpened". Players should think a bit, who would be able to do such things or ask around IC, if somebody knows who would sharpen knifes, or sell this or that, or has experience in mixing healing potions or whatever.

Just a sidenote, I think with the new npc-communication system, some quests get a bit too easy for my taste, because you get a pre-selection of people, you can talk to (just rightclick and see if he or she has a answer), maybe the good old 'about' would be enough to trigger some npc-answer-and-question chain, which then can be done in the new system. And yes, I know, it sometimes was a drag in the old times to find the right keyword (i remember, yelling at some poor NPC, because he refused to pay me, because he didn't understand me), but if you keep it simple, like "about lucky" and then switch to the new system, things would work

Wish list / Combine crafting/blacksmith with a minigame
« on: March 28, 2010, 11:59:39 am »
Hello everyone,
I have this idea for some time now in my head and I just want  to throw in it and ask others (especially other crafters and blacksmiths) what they think about it. If the idea has been presented already (i looked a bit through the search function, but haven't found anything), I apologize.

Right now, crafting is something like this:
Heat up your metal,
go to the anvil and use it
wait a few seconds,
get a blade with a somewhat random quality (dependent on skill)

What about using a minigame (maybe a kind of 'whac a mole') to have more influence on the quality ?
the better you play the minigame, the higher the quality of  your blade gets, the higher your skill  in blacksmith, the easier the minigame gets.
the game could be for example pressing the right numbers at the right time (like hitting the blade at the right spot) or pressing the right combination of numbers. I both cases there might be problems because of lags, so implementation would not be easy, I apologize to all devs in advance (i think you're doing a great job, and in the last months/years Planeshift  made huge steps  \\o//)

The crafter would have some kind of control (or maybe just the feeling that he/she has got the control) about the quality of his/her work, of course the
reading-the-newspaper-while-crafting wouldn't be so easy anymore  ;)

As I said, just an idea.

Linux Specific Issues / Re: Help with installation plz
« on: December 20, 2009, 10:26:52 pm »
As far as I remember, the default installation path is /opt, so you might have to run PlaneShift-v0.5.0-x86.bin with sudo, if you have ubuntu

you could also try the Newbie guide to installation on Ubuntu

http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=31776.0

i think most parts are described there

Linux Specific Issues / Re: PlaneShift casually crash
« on: May 12, 2009, 07:26:11 pm »
I had the same problem, that my client crashed randomly, i could fix that with disabling shadows and sound. To be honest, I don't think that the sound is the problem, but never change a running system. So my advice would be to disable shadows as a first try. Of course building from source would be another option, but if you are new to linux, that might be a bit too much trouble

I had some troubles with random crashes, but after disabling shadows and sound, everything runs fine

I had some random crashes with the new client too (linux and NVIDIA card), but since I disabled shadows two days ago, my client didn't crash any more (fingers crossed and knocking on wood). Maybe i was/am just lucky, but maybe it really helps

Best wishes from me  too, get well soon

General Discussion / Re: Do enkies purr?
« on: March 02, 2008, 12:46:18 am »
I don't remember Enkidukai NPC's purring when I ask them for a quest, so I don't think they do.

Why should they if you just ask them for a quest ?
Have you tried giving them presents, like fish ? Or giving them a nice back massage ?
That would be a reason for a heartily purr ;-)
