A description like "some type of" is hard to understand...

Is it more related to lighting, or more related to movement?

I experience some choppy movement, for example, which seems to be related to loading parts of the world, or to low resolution animations (the closer I get to a distant model, the smoother its animation stages get, and the smoother my movement is). Could be the "movement prediction" system getting confused.
I thank you for your reply it ended up being a well I will just copy paste it in here

It's a known issue when using ATI proprietary drivers and running Compiz. OpenGL stuff just flickers. You have to turn Compiz off, either by turning off Visual Effects in Appearance, or by typing:
Code:

metacity --replace

Then you can turn Compiz back on after you're done with the game.
I feel so silly but very very happy at the same time

SO my Problem is solved now only if I knew how to put Solved on this post I hope this helps others like it did me

I am runninf 64 bit Ubuntu gutsy gibon on a freshly built Pc I installed the newest drivers for the video card and installed the 64 bit ps while I am ingame I get a flicker or a kind of pulse type of  interference I did a
Code: [Select]
fglrxinfo
display: :0.0  screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: ATI Radeon HD 3870
OpenGL version string: 2.1.7412 Release
so I am sure the drivers are ok I also uninstalled the 64 bit and tryed the 32 bit ps and it was even worse. the pulsing looks allot like when you have a tape in a VCR and the tracking is off that is the best way for me to diskribe it. anyway I uninstlled the 32bit ps and reinstalled the 64bit because the interfence isn't as bad, I also have deul boot so I booted into windows and installed ps there and it has know problems at all so it has something to do with Linux and I really don't like windows and would prefer to play in Linux.
( confusing isn't it :)  ) can anyone help me with a fix?
I  read some where in one of the posts on here that someone had simular problems and changing to full screen corrected these problems so I tried that and received the following errors ( I hope this help narrows down the problem)
 Crystalspace.window.exrf86vm: unable to switch
Crystal space.canvas.glx2d:failed to open the x-windows
crystalspace,graphics3d.opengl:error opening graphics 2d context.

Linux Specific Issues / Re: Newbie guide to installation on Ubuntu.
« on: March 16, 2008, 12:45:26 am »
I installed PS succesfully on Ubuntu Hardy 64 bit. However, I needed to set correct permissions for the shorcuts on the desktop and the files afterwards to run it. PSupdater worked fine. Pssetup flickered all the time. Psclient flickered too, but switching to fullscreen fixed that issue.

It's like the windows behind the PS windows want to go in front of it, and that looks like flickering. Any idea how to fix that?

edit:
After a reboot the shortcuts were pretty big, like 5 times the normal size. I can't resize them. Any clue on that too?
I am having the same problem with the flickering how did you change to full screen? not sure if I want it in full screen because I switch between the irc channel and the game all the time . and as it is I have to go into the opt /planeshift dir just to start the game ok well I fixed the starting problem now I just wish the flicker would go away it is more of a pulse then a flicker though.

General Discussion / Re: I need directions (Read First)

I think a better idea than maps is to make better use of these sign posts. They point in directions but there is no indication of what they are pointing too as far as I can tell. I did try looking at one with examine but to no use. Sign posts should be made alot better use of.
I like the current lack of maps at starting point. But there could be a bit done to help the nwbies, the world is now alot bigger than it was when I first joined so I can see where they are getting lost...
well that worked for me in the Beginning but after you read and go past the sign post hundreds of times ( ok maybe not hundreds) they all seem to blend together.

General Discussion / Re: finding mines

JW, the poorest mines were found that way in 'the olden days'. The best ones were found by guessing and digging.
I spent a couple of hors last night searching for mines and not really paying attention where I was going now I am totally lost which frustrated me quite a bit last night lol

I still get turned around and end up in the wrong town like right now I am so turned around I am thinking to just /die and start over but the thing is I don't remember which exit out of Hy because of the 2 1/2 hrs of being totally turned around lost , to me it is very frustrating with everything looking so much the same I am trying to find my way back to the Platinum mine that I have been to quite a few times just to make a little fast money so  I can do other quests but like I said man it is very frustrating for me, I was lucky for a couple of days off and on someone was role playing helping me along but especially I get turned around from some of the lagg it will lagg me out hen I spin and end up going back where  I started from.

How did they do it in the old days? :/ There must we something we could learn from xD

Like a river with sparklies = gold. A rock with black stripes/spots is coal. Some rarer ones are Quest-only. It should be easier to spot(but harder then seeing a cluster of people mining :P)
I would like to know that also and what types of mines are out there

General Discussion / finding mines
« on: March 12, 2008, 07:08:12 pm »
I have / and am wondering how they find the mines , just think of it the person would have to run around and dig for each resource in each spot until you/they find a resource now that is very time consuming I am happy that there are people that find these places because I know I have tried and failed because I am not exactly sure of all and what types of resources are out there like the resent Platinum mine how was it found and Geeze who ever found it was pretty lucky or very very skilled at finding things like mines.
