In-Game Roleplay Events / Re: Guildhouse Auction

It's an auction after all so prices can be very low indeed.

This little tip worked for me too.

Just installed PS on my new comp and didn't get sound, at first I thought it was some vista issue until I found this nice little thread :)

Server Status / Re: Server Offline

He could just put up a temporary server, while the real one is down...

I suspect that anyone with less than a dedicated webserver with static IP need not apply. :)
Unless the game-engine is redesigned to use a 'swarm' of not-so-dedicated servers spread around the globe instead of one big one...

Technically possible I guess, but friggin amount of work to get it done. :D

I have compared my two installs thoroughly (ran md5deep on them ;) ) and only place I found a difference was in the planeshift.cfg file...

On the bottom of the 'black install' I found this line:
PlaneShift.Visuals.ShadowRange = 312
Any idea what it means? Changing it didn't do help much as it only got set back again... My initial thought on this was that my characters shadow now was 312m wide...explaining the black area around me :p

I got catalyst drivers v8.6 now, 8.3 had the same problem and you have 8.7. That's 3 different catalyst versions with that error.

My laptop also got an ATI-graphics card btw (mobility radeon 9600) but without the black ground. The drivers are a bit old though, 8.14XXX (?)

Have been messing around a bit and the results are...confusing...

First I found me a laptop with PS4.00, naturally it didn't connect to anything so I ran the 4.01 installer, after which PS totally failed to start. So I uninstalled everything, deleted what was left of the PS directory and ran the 4.01 installer, then the updater and suddenly I had textured terrain again :D

Then my 'real* computer. Like my laptop I uninstalled everything and deleted leftover files, then reinstalled fromthe 4.01 installer and ran the updater. Unfortunately, this comp did *not* behave like my laptop. Half a dozen tries yielded the same result: Clean install from 4.01 and the ground got textures. Run the updater(with many errors) and the ground gets black again... :(

I have seen that 'out of positional bounds' error, I even know how and where to provoke it. :)

In BD, find the big skeleton and try to climb the fence by it's tail. I get that error all the time if I just keep jumping the sides of that fence... (I want to ride the skeleton, okay? ;) )

My stats:
Dell Dimension 8300, 3.2GHz P4 HT, 2GB RAM, 256MB ATI Radeon 1950 Pro.
WinXP SP2, catalyst 8.6

8
For me it started with the 4.01 update. Playing with the gamma value in catalyst control center I regained some visibility. Turned out the ground wasn't totally black after all, just very, very dark. And there are no details, just 'blobs'...not to mention everything else looks crap...

9
Heh, good to know I don't suffer alone ;)

I don't know if it is connected but I am usually wading through the black ground., sometimes it is only inches deep, sometimes up to my (dwarven)chest.

10
The updater found scores of errors but apearantly none that helped me. My surroundings are still black. :(

My system:
P4HT @ 3.2GHz, 2GB RAM, ati radeon 1950x gpu (256MB RAM), latest version of catalyst drivers (or the version before that..)
winxp sp2

Maybe, I've replaced updaterinfo.xml, ranthe updater again and a lot of stuff *is* happening. Takes a while though, may have to let it run overnight and see how things look tomorrow. :)

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) / Black all around me
« on: August 05, 2008, 12:25:51 pm »
There have been areas that has been all black before but now it has taken a new direction. Most places I go, the terrain looks ok in the distance but as I get closer it gets darker. The ground under my feet is now usually 100% pitch black. MAkes it kind of hard to navigate dangerous terrain, or mine ore for that matter. Any suggestions? I have run the updater already..

Edit: Just noticed when I'm in the black, stuff I drop on the ground tend to get buried. Not by much though, maybe less than a foot..

I also see a lot of black ground. At the moment I am standing on an inky black plat mine. Kind of makes it har to figure out where you have been digging.

General Discussion / Re: Approved guilds?
« on: May 30, 2008, 10:42:26 pm »
Of course an approved guild should get benefits, but they should also have duties, and both benefits and duties should make sense and add to the game.

In-game I belong to a guild of miners and crafters. Allow me to dream up some benefits and duties for us should we ever get an approved status, something that falls in line with game-lore and our own guild-history...

First we add a 'high quality furnace'. This furnace will be a bit different from other furnaces. It will work better than the publicly available furnaces in most ways(less slag, better quality, more XP and PP etc) but access will be restricted by the controlling guild. It will also need maintainance to give its unique benefits. To the controlling guild it will provide income and power but also demand constant attention.

If this is too much benefits for one guild there could always be a high quality furnace in each town, controlled by different guilds.

Complaint Department / Re: "Time to die!" /die being abused

How about dropping the curse and just remove 1 point from a random stat? No big deal if it you only die occasionally but enough to stop "DR-tourism". ;)
