new error
when first entering bd from the tunnel/road
a huge empty gaping hole appears to the left of the entrance
when walking over that hole in the map you fall and respawn ontop of it
and the hole is gone, ground again

solution to the memory leak/lag
simply break bd map into 3 different loaded maps
bd main land area
bd ramp & eagle's nest area
bd tunnels w/ western tower and tunnel system

i feel its just lagging and memory leaks because the video is trying to display this HUGE area all at once
and its just not working
even with minumum display distance set to 0 and fps at max or even adaptive distance adjusted similar it has no effect and displays everything all at once

so rework the BD map and split it into 2 or 3 different maps to better adjust the lag/memory leak

and also that strange blackness and hole near the entrance to the map

EOC
-end of complaint/fix

i think more the point of questing is to gain storyline from the worldand intently avoid player interaction because players dont give quests do they?

quests are npc interactions not npc-player-dev interactions

the idea of a quest is you can learn the world through this interaction while gaining xp, coins, items
it forces you to travel to unknown lands to talk to certain people to find out about other items, lands, people

if it was as simple to ask harnquist to give me a quest, then immediately ask the nearest player some rp info and gain item then return it to harnquist it would not be nearly as thoughtful

i will state again, npc questing is just that, for npcs
player interaction is not required and should be completely solvable by npc interaction

other such things for like "how do i learn fighting" is player roleplay interaction because even if an npc teaches it and explains it all.. that is not the sole job of a quest to learn fighting
more of just another way that players give to the exploration and storyline of the gameplay, not give items to solve quests
hence heavy use of the word items and locations, which should be answered and solvable by npcs

standardization:

"where is x"
"who is x"
"about x x"
"x sent me"
"i need x"

most of those are common enough but there is limited responses given from them
adding "i need x" to a random npc should refer you to who could possibly help you if they cant give it
making "where is x" easier they either say, sorry i dont know them.. or they are near x in x area for person or object
"about x also" needs something as only ignorant npcs dont know what iron is, or what magic the land has
"who is x" definately not common enough as i can ask who someone thousands of times and certainly recieve no response
"who is talad" should be answerable by every npc that believes 1% in ANY religion
"who is merchant" occupation by who is should be easy to answer if they know someone because everyone knows the local merchant and should be able to answer name and general location or store name
"x sent me" isnt required because some quests dont require that to initiate a conversation HOWEVER, when no further dialog is given how to give information or ask for it then it is needed to have a standard saying to begin some conversation!!!! and thus continue with question and answer

making a common list of proper names for items in the world would be a great addition
every npc should have this list and be modified
if npc1 knows about a, b, e, f but d is not checked on npc then when asking anything reguarding d it would say "i dont know about d"
if npc2 gives quest about c they should at the VERY LEAST have info about c when asking, "about c" "where is c" "i need c" "who is c"

adding the list to every npc and giving them a check or no check and common dialog
however dont have accidentally mining checked but not iron, gold, coal, plat, etc checked
then they really dont know a darned about mining then do they?

if person lives in town and has optional quests about npc3, then npc3 should be checked and all info given during dialog should be checked
^give me a quest
npc1 gave quest to find npc3 about item c
^about npc3
npc3 in town4 owes me item c
^about item c
item c is such and such and ask npc3 in town4 about item c they can help you
^about town4
its somewhere ive been before because i went to talk to npc3 about item c

checks and balances, questions and answers
this will help the **lost quest information** and **npc doesnt respond** syndrome sometime encountered when blabbing all info back to npcs and getting null response

secondarily
please **less big quest with little reward for time and effort**
how many times did i run from BD to ojaveda only to have to run back to BD then continue back to ojaveda then back to bd then back to ojave and finish in BD on a single quest
3 or 4 times so far? yes
why? i get little from doing so besides a few coin and maybe 800xp
give more incentive for doing time consuming quests
such as custom items, useful skills, more xp or more money
smaller quests i can understand if "get 1 item and give to me" gives cost to cover aquire item and 100xp to complete quest
but the nonsense of i need to travel the entire first level 4 times to complete a quest inorder to gain simple 1000xp and 1000 trias is beyond rediculous
in such time i could have killed 200 rats and gotten more from doing so
what will it be like when travelling to level 8 to kill 30 mobs to get 10 hides 10 teeth and 15 chunks of coal from npc832 bring it all back to npc1 and then go to hidden area level 7 which takes 2 hours to reach then ask npc744 1 question and get letter then return to npc1 give letter and end the quest for 3000xp and a few coin

third the quest
i do understand quests get harder the more quests you ask from certain npcs
as should be expected
that doesnt mean it should become a massive puzzle game to get blue key to open blue door to find red key to give to npcR to find green info from unknown source and never finding unknown source for green info because there are 70 npcG to ask the question continuing on a downward "green info results ask green npc477 he knows more about it" then find greenpc477 and ask about "green info results in find me impossible yellow and ill tell you"
no, such things are too complex for low-mid level questing

that begins my rant on the dynamics of quest solutions and results

i can guess there may be a few quests that are broken or incomplete?
somehow ive run into a few where the dialog doesnt really mention the phrases to talk to the next person
or that the required items are impossible to find unless buying from a player or just asking the dumb question "where do i find x"

does anyone think that getting previous quest items should be held onto forever just incase 300 quests down the road someone says 'bring me a spoon' and low the beholder has not one and the quest you did as noob you got a spoon and sold it immediately? then no other way to get a spoon than to have throwaway char do quest over to get spoon and give to ye through 3rd party trade?

i mention because of the early early requirements to get steel ingots
anyone know how hard steel ingots are to get from npcs or make when you cant even melt iron or cast an ingot?
yeah pretty impossible when the only way anyone got so far was to be given a metallurgy skill at birth and spend 3 weeks levelling it up to make steel ingots

****maybe each quest should have alternative ways to complete if requiring difficult items to aquire
"you can ask x how to make x" "x says to make x bring me simple item x for trade"
instead of going to the nearest player and saying "hey im noob can i buy x from you for $$$$ because i cant make it and npcs wont give it to me"

seems a bit more likely than requiring player interaction
and again, how does player x get to make steel when you cant? what happened in previous quests or versions to allow them the ability to make x? or does that come later down the roads

5
basically the stats are on the server page
check the stats images at the bottom it has mobs birth rate /minute

if 0 the npcs are off
if 1+ then mobs are on, and someone is killing them and they respawn
notice also the player death rate goes waaayyy down when mobs are turned off

yes i wish the mobs would have a better secondary way allowing us needing to complete quests to finish them
otherwise its just a run from bd to ojave all day long completing tiny quests

yup linux here
slackware 12 based vector linux
nvidia drivers 169.12
EVGA gf fx 5200-LX 128mb agp8x

followed the instructions in bug tracker

added reply in bug tracker

although, i also added some other things to the psclient.cfg itself

Video.OpenGL.UseExtension.GL_EXT_texture_rectangle = false
Video.OpenGL.UseExtension.GL_ARB_texture_rectangle = false
Video.OpenGL.UseExtension.GL_NV_texture_rectangle = false

so im not really sure which works better or which solves the crash
but im leaving them there

well thanks for telling me that im a noob to the forums here and that reflects that you assume i have

1: no beta testing background
2: no ability to comprehend or get points across
3: no relevant information to give because ive only been playing for 3 days
4: i should be backhanded to the face because my views are different than yours

is generally what you say when you point out that i have 6 posts reguardless if i have read the entire bug tracker, read the entire forums, and have triplicate copies of your webpage on my hdb3

last note before explosions this is not a topic to the devs asking devs to fix stuff
its a topic to the players/roleplayers that do questing and understand its enviornment

so since the previous few days ive rejoined the PS community from a 4.5 year hiatus (forgot old email account used anyway)
and the torrent of crashes, timeouts, and impervious mobs to quench my looting
lack of anything to do besides mine platinum and sell it premium style

I decided to accomplish the newbie goals of learning the land and starting all the quests

back when the jumping bugs could land characters on any area they can scale up, and the endless crystals randomly spawned to collect.  lacking all stats, skills, inventory, weapons, and mobs was great back then.. just roaming hydlaa endlessly collecting crystals and finding the best way to jump to uber roof

well questing became the primary goal
it is extremely rewarding if you follow it closely and keep notes
and i hope my notes dont suddenly disappear as i would give up any attempt to remember 25+ quest notes

who of us feels that questing is a valid solution to the complaint of economy vs training vs mob killing?
its gotten me plenty of cash, some useless items, and enough gold to continue easily

however running a "simple errand" typically ends up in running from BD to Ojeva and back again for meagre chump change... ie: time well spent

so not to have any posts about which quests who gives what here, just a reminder there are plenty of alternatives to the basics of the skill system...
im sure most of us know the quests or have completed a few anyways

but still to the lack of better defined typical responses given to NPCs it would be a good idea to have some clue also that npc is done talking to you, and to continue with hints given on last parts of quest taken

after spamming 60 responses to an npc to find out how to continue its extremely irritating when the most basic is not the best result

"this quest is impervious to completing"

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) / Re: Quest Updates
« on: March 28, 2008, 06:22:52 am »
I'm currently doing Edritch's reputation quest, which I've done previously with another char, but it is completely different this time around.  No axe at all.  Instead he asks for 5 of a certain item.  No problem, I get the 5 items, but now how to give them to him?  If I try to give them to him as 5 separate items, it tells me he doesn't need that.  Same if I try to give him 1 at a time.   I've had similar issues on other quests, and the solution was to stack the items and give them as a stack.  But here, the item in question is apparently not stackable (at least I'm not able to get them to stack, it treats them consistently as 5 separate items).   How do I get the items to Edritch?

ugghhh..... so i read this, then went and got 10 quests
the first 3 easiest and im stuck on edrich with 5 items i cant dump on him
this is what happens when someone changes a quest but doesnt fix it properly

maybe if he knows a sack containing 5 items is the quest ehh??
well ... back to game with 5 items in stock i dont need

Newbie Help (Start Here) / Re: skills

uh huh....
so metallurgy requires practicing once i get green to fill the yellow and begin on red?
well if i throw in some iron ore to make iron then how can i turn that into ingots to make weapons with my blacksmith skill

if ye ask me its incredibly difficult to train a level 2 skill
cmon, its level 2 why should i have to fight rats for 30 hours to get to level 3?

kind of backwards when you think about the higher levels aquiring more xp per kill and not even needing to have all the pps to get a higher skill
10 hours of killing rogues to go up to level 10 skill vs 30 hours killing rats to get level 2
whew... doesnt seem balanced in that respect

but atleast now i can just figure out how to get my red to disappear i can get from 0 to level 1 and make it useful
