Do you have a firewall that your using? other then windows defender? If so, that may be the cause of your game not running. I have a laptop that i also use to play it on. Its has vista on it. I initially had issues but later found that my firewall program (AVG in this case) was stopping me and I never got the message. Needless to say, issue resolved. Just something you might way to check.
