General Discussion / Re: Planeshift Creators should checkout Facade
« on: April 15, 2008, 01:35:21 pm »
Coding or not, I still think it's brilliant. I've never seen something where you don't already have a few preset responses that the game will know how to respond to. Or a pre-recorded scene. It obviously has to understand to some extent what you're trying to get at in the conversation. You have to admit.

And I like that PS is doing that, I think it's the right direction. I know they have other things to work on, but they have plenty of time right?

This wasn't really, "It'll make the quests easier" although I won't say that wasn't on my mind at all when posting this thread,  I simply think it'll be something to look forward to. If it were developed to the same level as Facade... oh goodness >w< We're gonna have some fun with those NPC's XD

ok it's late @_@

Well it wasn't as much a cry for help as it was simply a "Hey, this is awesome too. Check it out!"

I love the way PS is headed, this game, Facade, is scary it's so accurate, If they manage to make PS like this, It'll be huge.

You should totally check out Facade, it's a very small free download, and it's won a few awards. I'm betting they're headed in a similar direction, can you imagine how amazing it'll be?

But when I say scary, I mean it, I was SO not used to game dialog like this, where you don't have a number of response options to choose from, or you have a pre-chosen response. Facade is scary because it truly is AI, it's like REAL conversation but with NPC's!

Ok I'll stop ^w^ I'm waiting for my nyquil to kick in ^w^ ~yawns~

General Discussion / Perhaps I'm just stuck in the world of Runescape
« on: April 13, 2008, 09:18:27 am »
But I'm new as of yesterday (Friday) and I am naturally having trouble finding my way around and talking to the NPC's and what not. My first instinct is to ask for help, but experience from Runescape tells me not to. I'll never forget how unfriendly the majority of Runescape players are. I'm wondering if, since Planeshift is so new, it has drawn a friendlier more patient crowd.

Also, I refrain from asking simply because I'm afraid of using the OOC settings IN the game, I was wondering how the majority of PS players feel about that. I'm used to using the brackets in RP's but those are simple story based one on one RP's sent between messaging systems on chat sites. I'm not much of an RP'er game wise, so I don't know if the opinion is different between the two.

General Discussion / Re: PS- to Runescapeish

If I remember correctly, in Runescape, there are mines underground with enemies surrounding them, making them harder to access. That was one of the suggestions you provided so I didn't agree with that much.

Perhaps it's better in a sense because this is still in its test form, from what I understand, but I see great potential for PS, I'm excited to see where it goes.

Runescape had ore stones too, specific rocks that had specific ore, I haven't been able to mine yet I'm terribly new but from what I understood, you could go anywhere and start mining and you might get lucky. I like that idea better.

Now I'm still getting the "Rats are impervious to attack" or any other enemy I come across for that matter so I haven't experienced the fighting style in this game, but I'll take your word for it and assume it's another thing they're trying to work on.

And I don't want to sound like the forum attackers who have nothing to say so they attack your grammar or spelling, but it does need a little work to gain more attention I think. ^-^ If you use Firefox it does spell checking and underlines the words you've misspelled, or you can even open up a word document and paste your post in there and it'll high light even your grammatical mistakes.

General Discussion / Planeshift Creators should checkout Facade

I know I looked at this a while ago, but I just rediscovered Planeshift yesterday, and this time it worked for me (meaning, I wasn't stupid this time XD)

I was interested to find out in the tutorial how to converse with other characters in the game, namely the NPC's.

It reminded me of another game I've played as an assignment requirement. It was called Facade. A free download.

I hope it's ok that I link to this site, http://www.interactivestory.net/

It's an AI based game, it's extremely short, and has no real combat or goal or much interacting for that matter. What they focus on is the interaction between characters based in conversation. It is pretty amazing. When they don't understand you which they usually do amazingly enough, they pass it off as not wanting to discuss it or mumbling something and bringing up a new topic. They do this instead of "I'm sorry I don't quite understand you. Would you mind rephrasing that?"

As in they say, "Uhh, well we're trying to avoid that for tonight." or something. "Um... Hey! Come over here and look at this painting."

You can even get into some awkwardly inappropriate conversations and risk the head of the household kicking you out as punishment.

I think it would be useful for the dialog developers to take a look at, maybe give them some ideas, if this is where they're headed with the dialog in Planeshift.

I am getting a little lost in the dialog, I'm having trouble with talking to the NPC's, but that's the best part about being ADD and easily entertained and having plenty of homework to procrastinate. XD It's not to hard to let one thing go and search for something else to do.

Newbie Help (Start Here) / NPC Trading question.
« on: April 12, 2008, 08:17:22 am »
I might just be a horrible newb who can't figure out how to turn to the right ( Which I can, that was simply an example ^w^ )

It says to right click on the NPC's to do things other than talking, such as trading and what not. It says for macintosh users to use control-click, the right click for us.

When I do this nothing happens, it's as though i'm clickng the ground behind the NPC and my character is walking there. Sooo I can't get past the second NPC in the tutorial (feels stupid)

Is this a simple mistake on my part? Or is there something seriously wrong?

Um, If it's needed. I have a Macbook Pro OSX 10.4.11 less than five months old I would say, if that helps any. Thank you to anyone who can help, or who cares to. XD
