Thanks Iriss! it did work to turn the Vertex Buffer Object off (whatever that is?)...

Its odd I don't see a significant difference using the other performance suggestions (the semicolon thing, the 2 lines of code you add somewhere, or adjusting the slider bars in the pssetup) Although everything looks bad with the lower graphic settings, actual performance is the same.  I wonder if this applies to all Intel Mac users running 10.4?

I have a similar problem with Hydlaa plaza.  I was able to run around freely between Oja and East Hydlaa but once I entered Hydlaa plaza the client crashed.  Now that my character is in Hydlaa plaza the client will crash just before the region loads. I have alts in other areas who can roam freely.

Here's the error log message:

Tue Jul  1 12:16:00 2008, <src/client/psclientdr.cpp:248 HandleStatsUpdate SEVERE>
Tue Jul  1 12:16:00 2008, Stat request failed because CelClient not ready for 17693

I've played successfully for months on 4.00 with basically the default configuration.  And have read ALL of the Mac sticky threads and have done the copy paste stuff suggested above (actually some of the performance suggestions made the shading and graphic problems much worse) but none of them address the Hydlaa plaza crash issue.

(MacBook OS 10.4.11, 2GHz, 2GB, Intel GMA 950)

Other problems encountered have been:

- there is a gap between the areas Hydlaa gate and Oja Rd1.  Oja Rd1 appears to be a meter higher and when I try to cross I fall for awhile into 'out of bounds' before I respawn somewhere on either side of the gap
- When the client crashes I am stuck 'logged in' and cannot log back in again until the server restarts (the message says wait 30 seconds - even after it's been 20 minutes)

Thanks!

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Re: Not able to connecct to server

I don't think anyone has really been able to connect for more than a few minutes (if at all) over the past couple days...  I'd give the devs some time to sort out the bugs and wait until the server is more stable before trying.

Thanks Caarrie!  I also missed/didn't understand this step until now (for us non-technical people):

Find and open in TextEdit:
updaterinfo.xml

Change this:
<config active="false">

To this:
<config active="true">

Run updater again...  Launch 4.01 Client!

See ya'll in 4.01

Hi guys...  first off thanks for taking care of us Mac folks  \\o//

However, I could not get the new updater to work as suggested above...  (the application does not respond)

I downloaded and installed 4.01 from the location specified in the XML file (thanks for the bandwidth Xordan).  But when I launch the 4.01 client it does not load all the way!  (In non-technical terms, the progress bar stops somewhere near in the middle and doesn't move any further)

The Error log has this to say:

Mon Jun 30 08:27:15 2008, <src/client/clientcachemanager.cpp:68 LoadNewFactory SEVERE>
Mon Jun 30 08:27:15 2008, Couldn't parse file /planeshift/shields/spiked_shield_04a.spr
Mon Jun 30 08:27:15 2008, <src/common/util/psxmlparser.cpp:294 ParseFile SEVERE>
Mon Jun 30 08:27:15 2008, Parse error in /planeshift/shields/spiked_shield_04a.spr: Not a binary CS document
Mon Jun 30 08:27:15 2008, Error reading end tag. (in: line 405:5; meshfact -> params)
Mon Jun 30 08:27:15 2008, Error reading end tag. (in: line 405:5; meshfact -> params)

These are my computer specs:

Computer type: MacBook
Mac OS Version: 10.4.11
Processor: 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
RAM: 2GB 667Ghz DDR2 SDRAM
Video Card: Intel GMA 950

Thanks for all your hard work!  Can't wait to start playing again...

Planeshift runs: yes...  4.00 worked well, 4.01 does not work!  :'(
Average FPS: Not sure
Platform-specific bugs encountered:
- slow performance in Hydlaa plaza (near the Laanx temple), Winch area, Bronze Doors area (half the map is blacked out at BD).

Thanks for taking care of us Mac die-hards!  \\o//

Server Status / Re: Server being upgraded...

The Mac updater doesn't appear to do anything...  If you look at the XML file created it points to: http://www.xordan.com/downloads.html  (OSX version is a 344MB download)...  however it doesn't work  :'(

General Discussion / Re: Economy Poll

Raise the price for animal parts and hides.  Assign quality levels to hides and skill levels to hunters (example: hunter level 20 has a good chance to get a high quality Ulber skin worth 1200 tria) This gives hunters a chance to 'make a decent living' and Ynnwn can progress without compromising their character attributes (being allergic to precious metals)
