thanks for keeping us up to date on the mac front, khaki!

General Discussion / Re: Wipe y/n?
« on: November 12, 2009, 02:46:16 pm »
wow, the nay-sayers have managed to push the yay-sayers back to under 55%

I would say the last wipe was definitely not yesterday, if a new one is needed, why
not do it now, that the exciting new 0.5 release can be supported.

There is not seriously people arguing that there will be another wipe with the 1.0 version?
Who is that supposed to affect? my grand-children?  ::)

Wipe away... regards, player_of_games

integrated possible solution/improvement to the "crash cycle" problem, P3 and S3 respectively.
Thanks to dralion1221 for rediscovering this fix from Jonnikhan's old thread!

hats off to dralion1221 for providing an actual fix-suggestion!

As often, it would benefit the mac community greatly if there was feedback from the original posters,
whether a suggested solution fixed their problem or not. Don't you think?
I suppose the lack of feedback is credit to the absorptive potential of the game ...   ;)

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Re: Mac Problem--Missing Files and Error Loading
« on: September 09, 2009, 12:38:59 pm »
hello pathfinder,

Unless you installed Planeshift running the admin account, Planeshift should be located
in your <user>/Library/Application Support/PlaneShift, not the hard drive Library folder.

Does that help?

<spam>
On a [not] totally unrelated note, I would recommend running games on a user account,
you need the admin account when you want to do some serious admin work on your mac,
everyday things like internet, work, games are best done on a normal user account.
It is safer that way...

hi, have you tried out these updaters?

http://www.planeshift.caarrie.org/updater.html

they may not be the newest version (I can't tell),
but I would try them out, they are probably able to update themselves
maybe this could be a first step before trying anything else...

fellow mac planeshifters,

I am very happy to write this on a (not soo) brand new spanking good macbook,
however, my trusty ibook actually had a hard-drive failure one week before it arrived,
therefore I had to leave the computer with the repair-guy for a good price on saving my precious data.

In other words, I can no longer contribute towards testing and tuning the troublesome little bugger
that is currently still the PowerPC version of Planeshift. It would be really nice if someone where to
take over this thread when the new release comes out, in case that should prove a sensible thing to do.

With 4.0.3, for me, there was little to do for PPC testing, it just crashed regularly and in any case the textures
were messed up if it had not, an issue which was not solvable by the regular tricks and fixes us PPC users had gotten used to  ;)

back to the bugs, and in order to avoid spamming the bug-tracker:

#3054: Weltall suggested this might be a duplicate of #1307,

indeed it seems that way, intel mac os 10.5.7 running /stable has Hall of Mirror
effects not just out of the sewer behind Kada Els but also exiting laanx dungeon.

The sewer exit still lets you fall in a hole, or a couple of meters into the map below,
when exiting without jumping over the border. Laanx dungeon exit is always a hole.

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Re: close down crash
« on: July 20, 2009, 06:48:00 pm »
unless I am gravely mistaken, that kind of behaviour is to be expected for now.
Don't worry about it, it happens to all of us, PS just crash-quits at the end.
I am sure the issue will be fixed at some point, as mac ps developers are surely aware of it.

I propose you don't need to send a report to apple about it,
just ignore the crash warning message in future.

Wish list / Re: Renaming Atheism to Misotheism
« on: June 26, 2009, 08:03:41 am »
well yes, but the in-game terminology is nevertheless borrowed from real life,
and one can disagree whether the in-game concept of what is now called 'atheism'
is best described by that term in-game.

that is not agnosticism Hydrolizer,

religious agnostics neither believe in nor disbelieve god. As such it is a terribly academic and dreary position
and while it may suit individual characters fine in the game or in real life, implementing it as an option is surely
the most boring category you could think of.

Mostly, I have met religious agnosticism in philosophers and scientists unable to subscribe to atheism
because theoretical notions alone do not warrant stronger version of atheism very well or at all.

[this does not contradict Joteses definition of agnosticism which seems to be in line with the above,
but we seem to disagree on whether this is an interesting addition to the positions you could take towards religion]

To add my own two cents, I like Hydrolizer's idea, I would just recommend to choose a different name,
like 'spiritual' position.
As he said, they would not deny the existence of the deities or disbelieve in magic, but they would,
(for a multitude of possible reasons) refuse to submit to any particular deity of the planeshift universe
and thus probably attract suspicion from all of them.  :P

It would only be for those stubborn enough and willing to go the hard way, just as atheism is now...

thanks for sharing...

Verden, he earlier said he had X.5.5, so he should be able to update to .5.7.,
but the counterfactual conditional that underlies your statement is still true  ;)

Anyway, sorry for going horribly  :offtopic:

One thing you should definitely do, besides getting planeshift to run,
is update to Mac OS 10.5.7 via running "Software Update..." from the apple menu!!!

Running an unpatched version of the OS is almost never a good idea.
