Hey everyone! Just thought I\'d say that I compiled the CVS and got it running under Slackware 10.0. I followed the old build instructions, and after having recompiled everything a couple of times it\'s finally working. Got the art from the windows package. I had some problems with CEL though. Planeshift used the include path /usr/local/cel/include, but it should be /usr/local/include/cel if you install CEL in the default path. Edited Jamconfig and everything worked. I hope this helps someone, because we can\'t allow those windows types to get ahead :) Anyways, thanks devs for a wonderful game!

Have you used a pre-compiled version of CS? I\'m using the cvs of CS (0.97 i think), and that\'s working fine. But if you have compiled it yourself, you should make sure you have everything you need, because it seems like CS is compiled without some thing PS needs. If you check the output of configure you should see what you need.

Well, my opinion is that you should get some reward for playing. I\'ve spent a lot of time playing, and would get very sad if all my crystals disappeared. If you don\'t have any crystals or weapons I can understand that you want everything wiped, but PS will surely loose some players if that happens. However, even if you wipe everything, you have to be able to get your name back. You should also be able to get back the guilds. Without being able to get back player names and guild, I think everything will be chaos. If both my cystals and name disappeares, I don\'t think I\'ll continue play PS. I would also like the devs to make up their minds on this (please don\'t smite me for making demands on you), so I know if it\'s any idea to keep collecting crystals, or just stop playing and wait for the next release. I think Nilaya\'s suggestions is great, and I would be really happy if that happens. However, all of this is just my personal oppinions, so please don\'t beat me :)

OK, thanks for the help. I don\'t know what\'s wrong with my code, but I got the CVS-code from Nilaya, and with that code I can spawn.

Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game / CVS problem
« on: September 18, 2003, 09:05:27 am »
I\'m having a really wierd problem with PS from CVS. I use the normal commands:
cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/planeshift login
cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/planeshift co -rMB010 planeshift

That works the first time, but when I use the commands again, to update PS, my connection dies. After maybe 20-30 seconds, my ISDN-modem clicks, and ppp dies. But if I download PS to a new dir, it works. Another wierd thing is that is says V0.2.008 when I start PS. Isn\'t it supposed to be 0.2.010?

One more question :) I can\'t spawn, even though I have a fairly recent CVS. When I try to spawn, it moves me to the plaza I think. But the graphics gets screwed up, and I can\'t move.

Hope I didn\'t write to much :) I\'d be thankfull for any answers. Ohh, almost forgot, I\'m using Slackware 9.0 with a geforce 4.

Seem to me like there\'s something wrong with Crystal Space. Make sure that you installed it correctly, and that you have the latest CVS of Crystals Space.

Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game / Linux cookbook

Try the Linux Cookbook (http://www.dsl.org/cookbook/). Otherwise you could just go to the library and borrow a book on linux.

I\'m using slackware 9.0, with PS built from cvs. /spawn doesn\'t work correctly for me either. However, I\'ve found that when you /spawn and restart and still is in the same spot you can do the following: Type /spawn, and quit as fast as possible. That usually helps. I would be happy if someone could solve the /spawn problem some linux users seems to have.

Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game / CVS?

Are you using CVS. Otherwise I\'d recommend that you try and compile it, because if you downloaded the binarys from the PS site, it\'s could\'ve been compiled with the wrong version of GCC.

The problem seems to be that CS is compiled without some libraries. The game might work anyway, so it\'s probably not a big problem. Just ignore the errors if PS works fine.

I don\'t know how important csjngimg is, but you should probably download libjng and recompile CS. It also seems like CS is compiled without glx. I\'ve only used Nvidias drivers, and I\'m not good at bsd, so I don\'t know what to do. I think you should run the CS configure script, and make sure that you have everything that\'s required.

It seems like you don\'t have GLX. What kind of graphic card do you have? If you have a NVIDIA card you should download the latest drivers from the http://www.nvidia.com. If you know that you have the correct drivers you should check if you have the line \"Load    \"glx\" \" in your XF86Config file.

It seems like CS have compiled without png. If you already have libpng, then maybe CS can\'t find it. Run configure and check if it finds libpng.
