I was at the VERY END of this quest, [EDITED] Quest NOT over, permanently. That is so infuriating; I really needed that reward, and after ALL that walking... <sobs>

Not according to the code in the CVS, unless someone can enlighten me further. There are a number of requirements to be met, but the chance of generating a success is always random. Aren't random numbers fun that way? Of course, I have experienced the perception of what you describe, but its random.

A mix between an observation and a question. (I don't think this is a spoiler, but of course if it is one, please take it down.) I've noticed that I mine better with full or near-full energy; at least, I rarely get anything with 20-40%. Coincidence? (This is pure conjecture, after all.)

I'm VERY new, just trying to learn the map, but whenever I try to exit Hydlaa (by passing the library and exiting through the gate), the following, without fail, on all of my characters, occurs:

When I'm in a hurry to finish a quest, I have no choice but to walk into it. When I come back, I'm always moved here. This makes it impossible to learn the maps, because when I go back through that area it becomes quite apparent that I'm nowhere near where I was before. I suppose it'd be a spoiler to ask where this is, but it would be nice to know how to fix this glitch. I've been trying for two days to get from Hydlaa to Ojadeva and back without any luck. Thanks.

Using a Mac 10.5.6 with a 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM memory.
PS: I know I registered a year ago -- I stopped playing after the first day and just started again now, so I would still qualify as "new."

I went AFK today with 0 energy, and of course, when I came back, I had 100% energy again. So I take a couple steps -- not running, walking -- and the energy went down to 0 IMMEDIATELY and those two paces became the most I could manage. It happened every time I tried to walk; the energy immediately changed to 0.
I just thought I should report this bug, although bear in mind simply relogging solved the problem to an extent.
Sorry if this bug was not worth reporting!

Is the Mac updater supposed to be an application? When I open the updater, it opens a few files to revert back to, but doesn't do anything else. When I open it again, it just replaces the old backup files. Either way, the client does not appear to have been updated. Should I simply reinstall?

Ah, sorry. 
I did ask, however... the advice I was given was abrupt and inconclusive. I'm still unsure of what to do... Ah, well. I guess I'll just keep at it. 

EDIT: Ah, it seems everyone that goes there has to perform a "task" -- most probably for a quest, and cannot assist me. The few people that actually died are quite new to the game or are simply Away From Keyboard. I guess I would just advise anyone else to do as I am now, trying everything. Some people will give out brief hints, though.

I'm having the same problem, but at the FIRST NPC. So I don't even know anything about the game. D:
