Linux Specific Issues / Re: Still no luck with PCLinuxOS2007
« on: February 13, 2009, 04:56:11 pm »
Sorry to hear about your woes Fenrig - i have no game right now due to leaf bug crashes. Try these things and do it in a terminal as you get plenty of debug info like this.

First go to the PS install directory (folder) and do: ./psupdater -repair

If that dont help go into the PS /lib and rename the OpenAL library with an underscore on the front so the game uses the system library.
You can do the same with the other libs in here too - i can run with only the speex library from PS. You do have OpenAL libs installed right?

If your on a 64bit Linux run the 64bit client as all my friends doing this are having no problems where im getting map sticking while walking which is even happening to the mobs chasing me :)
When you have it all working ok then you can run it from the 'pretty little icon' ;)

As this picture of the alliance recently blockading camp banished shows, grouping does have another useful purpose too ;)

Roleplaying (Communitive Storywriting) / Re: A Fun Story for Everyone
« on: September 29, 2008, 09:48:23 am »
Astia a dermorian female is at the end of the forge preparing some metal to make herself new daggers when she hears Gwinn talking with the old drunkard Harnquist.

Laughing at Gwinns words she finishes up the job at hand then ambles round into the forge building. Smiling at Gwinn she nods her head towards the slouched and swaying smith 'been at the ale again that one, did you smell it on his breath and how are you by the way Gwinn?'.

Noticing the Dwarf lady and the big Kran she extends her hand to both ' hello im Astia are you two with Gwinn?'.

She whispers to the Dwarf lady 'im making myself some new daggers so you are welcome to have my old ones for free, call it a welcoming gift from Hydlaa if you like. They are a bit worn from use but still very serviceable'.

Wish list / Re: NPC's that follow set routes

Seems a good Idea, i support that, have travelling merchants  going from town to town and guards on patrol, making it more..realistic eh? :D :P

Sounds good especially if we could attack and loot them if we have enough evil faction ;)

One problem is they never stop chasing a player unless another players attacks them or the one they chase logs off. Yesterday i saw tefusangs and ulbernauts up the side of cliffs miles from their normal postion. A couple of days back i saw a cuttroat and a tefusang wandering about randomly together so you need to do a big search to find where the creatures have gone. I do know the devs changed the behaviour a little while back to remove ones from the game that got stuck till the next time the server restarted. Im not certain if thats done right now.

My experience has been: the npcclient must be running - the /pet follow wont work until your a certain level - it does work but only once per summon and when the pet reaches you it stops unless you run off before it gets to you.
Another nice feature is "/mypet sniffs at the stranger and growls" which will show in main as i.e "Bob sniffs at the stranger and growls"
It would be nice if it kept following whenever you move off somewhere new.

Mac OSX Specific Issues / Re: Loading World crash
« on: September 17, 2008, 05:58:59 am »
I reinstalled many times and now it seemed to work.... the only problem is with the font... it's messy, I can't barely see what's written :(

Put a TrueType font (.ttf) that you like in data/ttf then edit the psclient.cfg file and change the name for the font to the new one. I use Deja or Vera font. Any updates will likely overwrite your changes. Im not sure if the personal settings psclient.cfg overrides the global one.

Neko has anyone put a feature request in for a /facepalm command? :D While we're at it what about /throwsuphands /screams /hugs /scratchesear /makesfaceat ... now those i would like to see ;)

Oh yes and on the subject of a better system do some careful research and you can build a great system for little money that can be easilly upgraded for a long while. My last upgrade about a year ago cost around $220 the 2GB of memory being half of that with motherboard dualcore processor and graphics card the other half. Its an SLI board so i can put another graphics card in when needed and im only using half the memory slots. The OCZ memory is the best investment of all as i get solid fast performance from it, no more el-cheapo stuff for me as theres too much grief from it.
My verdict: extremely happy with it so dont shovel money at a rig as its unnecessary and if you cant choose parts yourself get a techie friend to help :)

General Discussion / Re: Question Regarding a Rule
« on: September 06, 2008, 11:55:52 pm »
Thank you for your warnings and advice, I will take them into consideration when I decide my character's background and RP plots.
Of course this won't be my starting RP, I'd like to get a feel for the game and its players before I go into tinkering with the roleplay.

Thanks again

-Neo Hazard

That sounds good as its always best to lurk something new to see how things work and what is accepted or rejected. My advice with starting some RP is to try to get in-character (IC) conversations going if your say mining or crafting etc. This will get you noticed and then later you can maybe add some background support to other peoples RP and go from there. Dont push in as it will be seen as rude and intrusive. Remember to enjoy yourself but not at other players expense then you'll be ok. By observing you can adopt the things that entertain you into your own style and dont worry too much about your quality as i think we all know when you are trying to do your best.
This is only my personal advice and not gospel as i dont consider myself a good RP'er but maybe it will aid you to becoming one  ;)

Complaint Department / Re: Communication (or lack thereof)
« on: September 05, 2008, 05:05:19 pm »

I am getting a little frustrated too, with the continual misinformation being spread, the server was up and had been stable for at least 15-20 minutes when I posted that it was up, ask any of the dozen or so who logged in, as soon as I realised it wasnt stable I also posted that information.

As for the 4 days without an update, they were given when info was available, I really dont see the point of an hourly report saying there's nothing to report.

I confirm this as i got on PS for 20 minutes and am glad to say that everything was exactly how i left the game when the server went off so people should stop worrying/speculating  that anything is lost or whatever.

Im grateful to Xordan (i think it was) too who explained whats happened. Every hour that passes is one less till we get the game back right so lets be patient ;)

Blackjack and hookers. That's the End Goal.

Hehe your not looking - ive already played in a blackjack game (well with dice as theres no cards) and ive seen at least one of the ladies you mention :)

hint: get into the habit of reading characters descriptions as its informative and can save much embarassment i.e like when i was talking to a 3 y/o fenki thinking they were an adult  :-[ :D

On some of the points about RP mentioned yes i see what i think of as RP zealots who act just like their counterparts in any other human activity ;) Mature RP'ers need to be sought out and ive rarely seen them in the obvious places.
It is the RP and settings that i find make PS so different to the 'run of the mill' mmo type games ive played before that are just levelling pipelines running from newbie town to boredomville. I suppose in PS that could be platinum<->arena->leave ;)

Actually its surprising just how much info is around wrt where the game is going. A certain npc ingame will tell you about all the cities on the dome level including those not yet even being worked on plus their names so settings has already covered all this. We know the names of all the eight levels planned plus much of the nature of the stone labyrinth. Many of the books ingame give valuable info on the geography of the world too.
Here are good descriptions of three cities on the dome level that dont yet exist.

http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=31385.0

Settings i believe have been far from idle and i dont doubt when the next phase of city designing and building comes about more details will be revealed ;)

hint:
When your next in the death realm try being nosey instead of such a hurry to get out then you will maybe learn many more fascinating things too.
