Wish list / Re: Voice Range Colors
« on: August 18, 2008, 07:08:37 pm »
Actually, shouldn't it be difficult to distinguish conversations when a lot of people are speaking at once?  More distant voices tend to get drowned out by nearer ones.

Exactly, thats why we should be able to "hear" the nearer ones better by different font color and as was mentioned, I want to be able to focus on the conversation near me, not follow a conversation on the other side of a noisy tavern. Also, as mentioned before, this coloring can easily be made alongside the whisper mechanic that is also needed.

While I like the idea of text not being able to move through walls easily, that would probably be really difficult to do, especially with how sound would move around corners and through doorways.

Wish list / Voice Range Colors

Kind of a simple wish, but with the distance that voices travel and the thin walls and floors of Kada El's, I sometimes lose the people I am talking to in the flood of conversations. I'd like to see an option to have text that is closer to you be in a separate color. So maybe I could have the first quarter of the distance of my hearing range white and the rest slightly a blueish off-white. Thus when it gets too noisy I can more easily tune out the people I shouldn't be hearing very well in the din of the crowd.

I am very interested in the answers to these, especially that Kran color observation.

I'm also still wondering about how far the fins go up along a Nolthrir's finger and how this effects their ability to wear rings. I think it got overlooked next to my other question that was answered.

As sort of a temporary fix, couldn't there just be some recolors to the existing models? Of course still work on new models, but for the differentiating races.

Yilan Female - Dermorian with brown hair (Demorian seems better for them than Ynnwn to me)
Xacha Male - Yilan with pale blue skin and maybe red hair
Xacha Female - Dermorian with pale blue skin and maybe red hair (Once again Ynnwn are huge!)
Lemur Male / Female - Dermoian with pale azure skin and a hair color to help differentiate from Xacha (I feel kinda bad suggesting moving all these races to the exclusively Dermorian female model)
Nolthir Male - Dermorian with Nolthir female's skin and maybe hair colors
Hammerwielder Male / Female - Stonebreakers with hair color change
Diaboli Male / Female - Ynnwn with hair color change maybe darker skin
Kylos - Make one of them them bluer or grayer, preferably only slightly so its still hard to tell unless they are side by side  :P

It may look kinda shabby but I it will make it easier to tell apart and I don't think be too difficult to make a few color changes to existing skins (coming from no experience so I might be wrong).

General Discussion / Re: Player Vigesimi

I like the sound of this. Makes the world less static and the government really should be more with the way the cities are. Like Prolix said, it goes along with the crackdown in the effort to make the government seem more present.

A bunch of people keep talking about elections. I was under the impression that the position was inherited or at least appointed by the old Vigesimi or Octarch. (Meet the Dome Vigesimi Part One in Jayose reads like this is the case but does not say it flat out). Therefore, appointing the Vigiesimi would be completely handled by settings staff rather than a player election, so they most definitely would answer to the settings team. I'd actually like to see if appointed, by the gm team, the player having the option of making a new character for the position that is a relative of the previous Vigesimi.

Everytime I see a nonunique model, especially that male Dermorian model. I read at least enough to read race or gender in Klyros' case. There is really no reason not to, just double click on the person, look and close it.

General Discussion / Re: Does tutorial harm the game?

I started fairly recently and found the tutorial extremely easy and very helpful in teaching me how to talk with npcs and interact with objects. If you are willing to actually read the words the npc says as well as the help boxes that appear, you can find everything you need. The only change i would suggest is to wake the default text box large enough to fit the longest npc statement in it so newbs don't have to scroll up for instructions.

The tutorial is a great way to introduce people to the world and filter out players who wont read. Not to mention it gives the player a decent amount of tria that I greatly miss when starting alts.

What is the point of making all of your skills harder to level if you train one?
It's a way of making each character more specialized, rather than having most characters with all skills.

Instead of making it harder to level a stat or skill, why not do what uo did and set a maximum total points a character could have that is significantly less than what would max out all the stats. Though UO also made it so that the total could be raised a little bit later on.

I completely agree with Prolix on the idea of fairly constantly controlled npc's. Just a few characters, mostly significant political or religious characters should be accessible for the community to seek advise and aid from. ie. Amidison Stronghand and Sharven Xant-Areth or another Rector. I can see the problem of making them staffed regularly and consistently played properly, and the fate of the quests but I would love to see the more significant leaders actually be a part of the community.

Speaking of the light from the crystal, if Yliakum is just a stalactite on a larger planet, wouldn't there have to be multiple real suns for the day and night cycles to be about the same length. With only one sun I would think that the night would be a lot longer than day.

She doesn't understand how anyone could not want to buy fish.

One that was bugging me earlier was that I needed to get ink and paper from Jayose for a quest. So I ask for the paper, and he says it will cost 50 tiras. I hand him an octa and I get an error saying that Jayose does not want this. I guess he doesn't want to do business with me.

Another Nolthrir question. How far up does the webbing on their hands go and do they also have it on their feet? The reason I ask is because I picture the webbing to extend to about the knuckle, which would make wearing rings very hard to do. Is the webbing much shorter? And how effective is it in helping them swim?

Also off of what Peanut mentioned about a language, I would also imagine a that the Nolthrir have a hard time hearing on land since sound travels much better in water

Newbie Help (Start Here) / Chat Window and Speech Bubbles
« on: July 02, 2008, 08:25:44 am »
So far I'm really enjoying this game and its focus on roleplay. However, the chat window seems way too small and the speech bubbles too quick, so when read I miss parts in the speech bubble and then have to scroll up and find where I was.

Is there anyway way to make the chat window larger or the speech bubbles last longer? Maybe even decrease the text size, but I couldn't find any of these under options.

Thank you for your help.
