Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game / EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION help

Everytime I try to use the Planeshift client, an error message appears saying something unexpected happened in PlaneShift: Steel Blue Details: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION at 00708F2A.
My computer is 4 years old and pretty weak, but I can still play all the the mmorpgs I've played before, just at low specs.
OS: Windows XP SP 2
CPU: Intel Pentium 4
Video card: Integrated
