i had a similar idea but i first tried to create spell making system. i agree this is a great idea but concentrate on HOW it would be done.

portraits give personality to cahr that is why they should be full coustomized by player. the problem \'bout that is already seen.

differences in models will come of course. u got piont in that.

thynett is right. every time someone dig a tunel u would have to download it when logging. and as guild highquaters will eventualy become avilable everyone should get a secret door for the purposes of the guild.

as i know there will be a stamina bar so u couldnt do that kind of stuff as much as u like. but how will it work whit RPG elements? will it be some kind of evasion as well?

it would be too cool to have fighting system for jedi knight but that would be no RPG. it could be used whit all melee weapons whit some small changes. but it would be too hard to iplement in RPG system

ppl cant allways chose when will they log off. and its not too hard to pull cable from moden or simply turn it off. it would happen, belive me.

as i said there is also the adventage whit NPCs. and number of ppl in the city wont change in too big jumps. it will rise as new players come into game. whit this game realistic are at higher level.

I dont know how this problem is solved in other MMORPGs if it is at all.

Say i\'m in the heat of losing battle. Cant win cant run and i just log off. A lousy way of cheating. ppl dont care.
I was exploring the woods when i log off. Next time i enter the game i can wake up surrounded by bunch of ppl fighting and get incindentaly killed whitout knowing what hit me. Cant blame them i wasnt there when fight started.

Well the second exemple is hard to happen but not impossibile. The main point is: where is my character when im not there?

There are few solutions:
When player go char remain the same place. Too stupid too many ppl sleeping on the streets too many death in sleep.

Everybody have their main job selected at char generation. So when i log off while beeing in the city my char become an NPC doing my regular , going home or guild (if any). It will reduce number of real NPCs. Char attacked in the city will run away from battle towards city guards (i asume they exist; and whit reason in this case) yelling for help. char will remember if anything odd happened to him while i was away.

ppl will pay more attention where they gonna sleep, and cowardly escapin will be eliminated (as now it lacks of any point).

In realty u dont wanna die. So to make game  more relistic u shouldnt wanna die in game too. I know this soudns too rough but it would make ppl to take much more care of themselfs.
Dont think this would kill will for adventuring. No one wants to sit bored.

This system rmindes me much of
Diablo magiic item system. isnt it the same:
ramdomly genereted item caracteristics, namig by them...
It\'s cool then we\'ll have a large specter of items different from each other. But dont disturd your sefl whit you naming them. There will surly be item too good to be named by any player and devs will give them names as their like.
But it could be ok if I could name it however I want while item is in my possesion. Other player would know it\'s basic type (sword, steff, mace...) and if it\'s magical or not. When they take it form me (wont happen) they can name it as they like, and so on...
There is no inchangeable name, and the name depends only on wealder.
As I allready said there will be items of huge power that would be named by devs and that name lasts forever. We are aware that this items cant be found at every corner.
