Thank you for your warnings and advice, I will take them into consideration when I decide my character's background and RP plots.
Of course this won't be my starting RP, I'd like to get a feel for the game and its players before I go into tinkering with the roleplay.

Thanks again

^^Regarding what he just said, I agree 100%. For an MMORPG that is created for the intention of Roleplaying, I cannot think of a better goal. I completely understand what's being said here, and I fully agree. Noobs are oblivious, unfortunately, and will refuse to roleplay if they A. Don't want to, B. Don't feel like it (kind of A), and C. Aren't experienced enough. If the players were to be given a small tutorial ingame on how to roleplay successfully, they might feel a little more confident when going into the RP world. Encouraging behavior from other players helps this as well, and you should try to integrate players nearby you in your roleplays, especially ones that just seem to be running circles because they don't know what to do. From personal experience, I know that RPing on MMO's like World of Warcraft and City of Heroes/Villains, joining or finding a solid roleplay partner / group is difficult, especially when the core mechanic seems to be leveling, questing, looting, etc.

Try and include new people, you never know if a noob will turn out to be a fantastic roleplayer.

General Discussion / Question Regarding a Rule

After reading through the Ingame and Forum rules, I've come across a particular question that can impact roleplay to a certain degree.

Are we allowed to create guilds or have a character roleplay with a certain racist dislike with any IC race?

Obviously the rules state no racism or the like, but to roleplay racism among races based upon past experiences, past relationships, or similar events (i.e. your mom/dad/grandfather/guardian/mentor was killed by a lemur or a krahn, therefore you hate / want revenge from them) would allow for some more depth in RP, allowing a character to not have to be kind, nice, and gentle to every single person they meet, besides evil characters who do pretty much the exact opposite in the long run, i.e. subterfuge.

Just a curious question, obviously we don't want widespread racism in the game, but variety would add to the roleplay experience.
