Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) / Freaky screen

I was so excited to finally get this game up and get onto the server, only to find that all text boxes and loading screens have pixilated backgrounds, so brightly colored that the white text cannot be read without difficulty. is this just me?

it just tells me *failed* when it attempts to connect to the server, are there other servers? or just the one, because i cannot find others from the login page.

Haven't even gotten to play yet /sob
