Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game /

Please read the last part on this page: http://www.planeshift.it/download_client.html and check if the files MD5 sums are correct, if not, redownload the file(s) that has a wrongful MD5 sum.

EDIT: check out this thread: http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=3952&boardid=17&styleid=3&sid=3a068eb6f4546fac5bf61bc1d4339863

Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game /
« on: June 11, 2003, 07:15:32 pm »
I had the same problem. But I was able to fix it by editing the configure-jam script. By looking at the log files configure-jam was generating I found out that it doesn\'t link libpng with libm when it tries to check wheter libpng is working or not. This caused an undefined reference to \'pow()\' (for me), and thus configure-jam discards libpng. I edited the configure-jam file and made it link the test program for libpng with libm, and after this it detected libpng and everything went on smootly. Sadly, I deleted all the \"build\" directories for PS, in lack of disk space, so I don\'t have the script anymore. I can\'t really remeber what it was I changed, and as I don\'t have the script anymore, I\'m unable to check it out =(

This was the problem that I had with libpng, but ofcourse it doesn\'t have to be the same problem you have.

Sorry if this was a rather technical explanation, but it\'s all I can do at the moment.

Finally, I guess I could make a patch to fix the configure-jam file, if you guys would like one...

Did you run the \'updater\' tool before starting Planeshift? PS should be version 0.2.010.

I totally agree. We shouldn\'t split up the community (yet). These are ofcourse only my own subjective thoughts.

I don\'t think it\'s my hardware that is the problem, since I was able to play before, with no less than 5 FPS (and that was very rare).

I also forgot to mention that restarting PS didn\'t solve this problem. When I first enter the world, it is still on the same FPS that it was when I exited earlier.

My connection: 256/256 kbps ADSL

But as I already said, I didn\'t experience any problems before yesterday.

This happens to me too. For me is doesn\'t seem to be the rain that is causing the lag.

I log in and start playing - everything is fine, but after a few minutes the game starts lagging (framerate drops), and thus making it impossible to do anything but typing message on the \"chat box\". And the longer I wait, the lower the framerate seems to drop. After about 10 minutes - at this point with ~0.03 FPS - I couldn\'t stand it anymore, and exited the game. I also read the output on console, but I didn\'t find anything \"paranormal\".

System specs:
AMD Athlon XP 1700+ on Abit KT7A
512 MB SDRAM
Geforce 2MX 200/400
Running linux

I should also mention that before yesterday I had no problems at all with PS.

P.S. Maybe this should be a bug-report instead?

How long do you wait before assuming it has frozen? For me it took about 10 minutes the first time I loaded it. Be patient... go have a meal or something as long as the world is loading =P

Note: this *could* be a solution... but probably it\'s not =P
