I think it's a good idea!
Also the idea of just being able to change the colours of clothes is good. I've been able to dynamically change the colour of parts of models before (using a Java game engine, though), tinting that part of the texture, so perhaps it could be done this way without putting too much strain on the system?

Possibility to give a name to a sack in your inventory. This will greatly simplify the organization of your items!
Hurrah!  \\o//

I think this is an excellent idea, both for immersion, increasing chances for roleplay and for giving newer players a sense of direction.

Complaint Department / Re: The NPC Issue.

I agree as well, it can be very frustrating when you cannot find an NPC, even though you've been all over town in all the places you've seen them before. Have they gone for the night? When will they return?

A feature I would love to see and that I think would help somewhat to alleviate the frustration is if NPCs that know eachother could tell you that their friend has gone to bed and if an NPC has seen another recently and what way they went (could be based on where an NPC is supposed to be at a certain time).
This way you could know if you should run around searching for them or not and it would be entirely IC.

Newbie Help (Start Here) / Re: The Winch???

If your character is more of a merchant, perhaps Silmendil (Ferentaur) could help you out by giving you some contacts. Just ask if you see him online. I found that way into the Winch the most interesting. Look for a quiet Dermorian herbalist.

Have you tried the Linux version? ;)

General Discussion / Re: Losing players?
« on: April 11, 2012, 09:53:11 pm »
Just a quick idea here, partly borrowed from another game, where it helped to improve player retention and create a closer community:
* Automatically set a "new player" flag on new characters (that can be easily switched off for those older players who create new characters or that is automatically switched off if the account has in game time exceeding a certain amount of hours) that is discretely visible to anyone.
* Set up a mentoring system, where players who mentor new players get some kind of rewards based on how many players they've mentored, but that is not an overpowered item, but rather a symbol of their efforts in helping new players.
* Give new players a tip in the tutorial that they should seek a mentor.
* Integrate the mentoring system in some way into the game world so that it makes sense (or make a good starting point for the player and mentor to come up with a reason).

Some interesting related ideas, often meant to lessen the gap between casual and "power" players, that have been successfully implemented by other games are:
* Offline time gives a certain number of points per hour. When you log in you can choose to put these points into something, as if your character had been working during your offline time. This bonus is fairly small compared to actually being logged in and working on the same thing.
* Offline time gives a bonus after login to all/certain actions you do, meaning you get more experience/practice points while the "sleep" bonus lasts. You might e.g. gain 50% more experience/practice points for a limited time, depending on how long you were offline, then the bonus disappears until you accumulate more offline time.

Linux Specific Issues / Re: Processor Type
« on: January 06, 2011, 03:24:54 pm »
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz
Intel GM965/GL960 integrated graphics (supports OpenGL 2.0 in hardware but not with current open source drivers)
Ubuntu 10.10
Planeshift runs just fine most of the time, but I have to keep shader's at Lowest or else the game lags immensely when you try to cast spells.
There seems to be no problems with the processor that are apparent.

Wish list / Re: Buying copies of books.
« on: January 06, 2011, 02:42:58 pm »
I agree with this wish!
Jayose has a glyph that copies books quickly as well, so he should be able to make copies to sell.
That way he could afford to hire another assistant, perhaps, so he wouldn't be so busy?

Wish list / Re: Top 5 ideas you want to see implented.
« on: January 06, 2011, 02:40:43 pm »
1) Weaving, sewing and clothes (or at least being able to get different, civilian clothes)
2) Herbalism
3) Alchemy
4) Being able to copy books (Jayose does it with a glyph quite quickly)
5) Being able to buy books from a physical bookstore or a library

You might think about your character's relation to different subjects, like religion, government etc., what god (s)he is most drawn to.
Perhaps a mercenary is drawn to the Red Way (although possibly not too far in, as that takes alot of work and expenses).
In what places does the character feel comfortable?
With lots of people around her/him, out in the wilderness or in a shady corner of a tavern?
