Thanx to all who sent me info on this :) My hubby has finally done the compiling and let me use his machine for a few hours to test it out, it works great. No crashing, no sticky roads, and the graphics are much crisper and clearer.
Now anyone have any hints on how I can get him to let me use his machine more often  :P

Thanks Sen, I sent a PM to nerdful1 explaining that I had tried to run the windows version through WINe, only thing I succeeded in doing with that was really annoy my husband by using up all the bandwidth for the month. 3 PS downloads in a week does not make for a happy hubby :(
He's a programmer but unfortunately  too busy to compile me a fully functional game, barely lets me kick him off his computer for a couple of hours a day so I can join the community.

Does anyone have tips for the stickiness of the Oja road?
If I'm out walking alone this doesn't really bother me, but the last 2 days some nice players have offered to show me new places and I have had trouble keeping up with them due to the fact I keep getting stuck. In the end I have had to make IC excuses (my claws need clipping or my paws are all sticky), thank them for their time, and suggest they continue on without me. It's becoming both frustrating and embarrassing.  :'(
I have highish endurance but that is not meaning a lot at the moment when I keep having to twist and turn my way along the road just to get any distance covered.
Any helpful tips would be much appreciated  :)

Edit: 03/02/09
Haven't been able to get hubby to do much for me compiling-wise, we have some missing libraries or some such, and collapsing global economy is more important. I have however discovered that if I run along about halfway up the hillsides I have no stickiness problem :)

Linux Specific Issues / Re: Flashing screen
« on: January 27, 2009, 12:41:26 am »
Not sure if it's of any help, but I use Firefox 3 and get flashing screens on some other sites. Not noticed it occurring with PS but then I'm using a newer computer (but same OS) to play that on. I've been told it's a problem contained in the FF3

Thank you all for the description, I would have been looking for 'plants'. I did managed to get a little extra game time this morning and met a lovely lady who was very helpful to myself and another new player. She was on her way to show us the area for some herbs but I had to leave. But now I know I hadn't gone far enough along the road to Hydlaa to find them :)

Yes I understand there are a lot about, but if you have no idea what they are supposed to look like or what they are called it makes it difficult to find them. What I want to know is a rough idea of how they look and whether or not I can just type /pick and gather them this way.
I can find plenty of similar info for mining but not herbs. And with mining all you need to look for is the ground.
I can't really wander the wilderness typing /target (any old word) until I get it right :) Well I could but I think I'd get bored playing after a couple of hours of that.

I finally got to start a fresh character today and succeeded in doing some mining. But I'm having trouble figuring out how to go about gathering herbs, I know they're of no skill use yet but I would like to try picking some.

Thank you both. I did have to activate the ingame option to make the log, as soon as that was done they appeared where they were supposed to be :)
As I play on his computer and that does a back up each night I'm going to have to copy/paste the log to myself as an email. So I've decided to create a new character and start again from scratch :)

sorry could you clarify which options you mean here? In the game or the directory?

I put that in and all I got were the same 3 as earlier (options  options.cfg  planeshift.cfg) I looked at all of those and no sign on any log.
I'm wondering if perhaps I should just uninstall it and re-download it again, for the third time :(
I'm spending more time dealing with problems than actually playing  >:( Which is a shame because when I do get to play it's an enjoyable game.

Sorry perhaps I didn't quiet make it clear. My husband (who is a programmer) has made a complete check of both my computer and his (where I actually play) and there is no log files for PS on either machine. He's going to check again when I am playing on his just to make doubly sure that it's not just something that only pops up during gameplay.

ok I got my husband to look, and no there is nothing that is logs. And nothing that might be logs renamed that was updated within the last day while I was on PS
I also did a fully search of the PS folder and the only things that show up with log were diaLOG.xml  and LOGinwindow.xml

No such file or directory
ls ~/.PlaneShift/
options  options.cfg  planeshift.cfg
That's all there is

Is there a similar site for Linux/Ubuntu? I couldn't find the logs in my PS folder either.

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) / Quest glitch
« on: January 13, 2009, 05:55:01 am »
I started a quest, went to see the npc concerned for the next step and he started to give me another part to the quest. Before I could accept the second part my game crashed. When I got back on the npc didn't know what I was talking about, and would not continue the quest. I tried to cancel the quest (in hope of restarting it?) but it won't let me cancel because it is the first attempt? Any help would be appreciated.
