Linux Specific Issues / Re: Still no luck with PCLinuxOS2007

it is never recommended to install ps from a distro repo, you are best to download the full client from the download page and run the updater.

Apologies for giving incorrect advice. I was simply retelling the method which worked best for me.

Zoran, I'm using the default configuration, whatever that may be. I haven't touched it. However, I do have an additional sound-related problem on my system, and that is that while I have sounds in my desktop effects, and sound in Amarok, I have no sound in any media in my web browser. YouTube videos, flash videos, etc, have no sound in them. And I know it's not a hardware problem, because I have a Windoze installation on this computer too, and it all works fine there. Also, in Amarok, mp3 files sound good, but wma files sound..... I don't know.... dirty? Like a dusty vinyl LP.

I agree with Zoran, it sounds as though your sound system is not correctly configured. Run 'alsaconf' as root to ensure everything is set right, and check the KDE Control Center to make sure the sound system is using ALSA. (fiddling with those settings might also help with your general sound issues). Otherwise, you might ask for assistance on the PCLinuxOS forum.

Meh, I am obviously quite silly. Right after "X Error" it crashes and I somehow think it's a sound issue. Some days I amaze myself.

I will tell you how I got Planeshift working on my fully updated PCLinuxOS 2007 system. I installed the game from the repo, patched the updater as need, then ran said updater. The game ran but I wasn't satisfied because it would crash constantly. I followed the instructions in the post on how to Avoid the Crashes using WINE and now I am entirely content. 8)

A huge thank you to firiban. You are awesome! Thanks as well to nerdful1, I also run PCLinuxOS and your detailed step by step was very useful; and to Loote, I had the same problem you had and took care of it the way you described. Now I am almost one hundred percent crash free! \\o//

For houp. I can't speak for Loote, but what I did was install cabextract from the repository of my distribution. Then I looked into megascript.sh and manually downloaded winetricks to the pertinent directory made it executable and ran it. (I apologize if this is too cryptic, it is late and I am rushing). This is what megascript does but for some reason it wasn't working running automatically, even after cabextract was installed. Good luck. :)
