General Discussion / Re: Age Discussion
« on: September 01, 2009, 04:52:59 pm »
so I was thinking about the whole aging processing deal, and I thought it would make more sense for all races to grow at the same rate. it would be too weird to have, say, a dermorian and klyros who have known each other since they were just babies, and then a few years later the klyros is almost an adult and the dermorian hasn't even begun schooling. it just doesn't make sense.

Why not? For one thing, I would think that most children would play with their own species (for the most part.)  And if not, then one of them walks away grown-up before the other is ready.

I for one think that this is an interesting topic.

From what I see, this sort of thing shouldn't have a rule set in stone. Why? How rapidly one ages and how long one lives is completely independent of how someone else (even of the same species) does. Some people will age quickly, some will grow scars in battle, some will have their eyes gourged out, some will be burnt by magical fire, and there are even some more natural and less violent ways that show that someone is approaching their expiration date.

That being said, I would not think that a Xacha who claims he is 500 cycles is being fair. But, a very frail Xacha of 90 cycles I would buy.

My opinion? Take the suggested age limits into consideration, then push and pull at it in a sensible and fair manner.

For the actual aging, I would guess that the process is proportional to the life span. (Otherwise the 200 cycle demorian will be a black peanut.) But I wouldn't go as far as to say that there is a simple fraction to be used against all the inhabitants of Yliakum. Again, be reasonable, but this decision should be up to the RolePlayer.

And as for laws that govern different age groups (i.e. the one year of weapons training), I think that the most appropriate way to determine who is/isn't appropriate is to go not by age, but by character. For example, I know of an 11 cycle klyros who is quite intelligent and fairly skilled with weapons. (But then again, Klyros only live to 50, so that's actually old  ;D , but anyways...) A government official should deem him ready for training because he is physically and mentally ready for it. But the 50 cycle Demorian who babbles to himself and wears a diaper would not be ready for such training.

Just my two-five cents.

Guilds Forum / Re: [GUILD] The Bounty Hunters

This sounds like a great idea. How do we put a bounty on someone? It's not like I can just hang up a poster in Hydlaa Plaza, saying I want an Octarch assassinated. Can I place a bounty without showing up in person?

Thank you so much for setting up this event, it was a lot of fun.  But next time, could we do it at a different time?

Sounds exciting.  I'd join... except that I couldn't get on until after 9 GMT.  Is there any flexibility to the time?

O gets elation,
the greatest sensation.
it's Organization,

cause it could stand for Org(onwukh)

Dalgin Xawanda

A long as his rhymes are nice
I won't put him under.

If you fight Orgonwukh
Then you're out of luck
But I will not be struck
Pen's Mighter than Sword
So take that! *Word*

Dalgin pounds his chest, and flips out a peace sign

Thank you, thank you. I'll be at the vaudeville every night. Yeah, tip your waitresses. Buy some drinks. I sing on request. Peace!

It's about time.  So,
I think that y'all should know
about the R-C-O
It's gonna strike you with awe
when it comes to Hydlaa

R stands for Red,
like when Diaboli bled
(yeah, that's what I said)
Don't call it a crime
I use what will rhyme

C is a jewel,
one that makes ladies drool,
till it fills the pool
A Crystal that's red
or a ruby instead

O gets elation,
the greatest sensation.
it's Organization,
but call the morgue,
cause it could stand for Org(onwukh)

So, what does it mean?
Should it excite this teen?
Or is it caffeine?
(I cannot say no)
But I love R-C-O

It can be for rent
and you won't resent
if you have an event
It'll be a thrill
at the vaudeville

Like music and plays?
Or artwork to gaze?
I think we'll amaze
All this and more
It's culture galore!

But you'll like, me'thinks,
all the bountiful drinks
Am I right? Dalgin winks
We will have food, too
'nough to satisfy you

"This building is hosted
by Aiwendil," I boasted
"We'll keep you all posted!"
(Now that is my rap
Sorry if it is..... poo)

(Check out the Red Crystal Organization link http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=35262.0 for more info (that doesn't rhyme))

General Discussion / Re: Detachment from Character
« on: May 19, 2009, 01:53:06 am »
Well Rig, when I thought about Dalgin, I thought of some ideal characteristics: Charismatic, Smart, Educated, Polite, and such.  I'd like to think he shares some characteristics with me.  But, to make it interesting, I gave him a whole 'nother depth to him (that you know all about, Rigwyn  :whistling:).  I suppose that, if I were to make another character, I would try something very different, sort of experiment.  In RL, I am not a mean person, but could I pull off a mean character?  I don't really know.

Also, I guess this is because I have never played a game like this, but, I can say that I feel excited when I RP.  It feels very cool, like writing a book with someone else, improvising every line.  I'd even go as far to say that I've been 'craving' it.  Sometimes, I feel like mild mannered Dalgin doesn't get in enough trouble, and he goes for a long time without any sort of involved discussion or conflict.  That sort of thing is rare for him, but I resist the urge to break character and I make it work.  So, I think what I feel is different than what you do, because we have had different experiences.  But I can feel empathy your excitement.  Sometime, you and I should find a way to get in trouble together.   ;D

(But not too much, I don't want and go like Tolian.   :ban:)

Wish list / Re: Community Playhouse and/or amplitheather

Actually, I think there is something that would satisfy your requests.  If you haven't been keeping up with the Octarchy Society for Progress, then you wouldn't know that a guild has been given a guild house for the purpose of making a vaudeville.  This vaudeville will be used for a showcase of culture: art, theater, poetry, songs, music, writing, ect.  It will also be offered to sponsor the events of other guilds.  Plus, there will be food and drink.  Check out this link, and ask to get involved.

We will soon be getting the guild house, as soon as the Octarchy (GMs) can get to it.

I agree!

P.S. If I am in agreement, do I have to have an argument?

Newbie Help (Start Here) / Re: Training
« on: May 14, 2009, 11:27:36 pm »
It's not that simple.  Players show other players where to find it, so look for someone with a pickaxe, and stalk them.  (Or you could just ask for help.  Most players are helpful.)
