Hey all.

Its been 3 years, possibly longer. A lot has happened in that time, and I do hope I might be back in game soon one day. I was honestly waiting for PS to expand a little, and I am now curious to see how much it has changed these last few years. However, as a dedicated linux gamer, I am not sure how this will run on my systems, it was ropey before. So, anyway, hope to see you soon in game.

We need OS details, and an error log if possible please, plus hardware details would be useful. Without those, it will be difficult to help you.

A bump post, just to remind people that we are still VERY active.

We hold tours every Saturday for those that get easily lost. There is a lot more of Ylikaum than most people know.

Ok, off on a bit of a tangent....

Looking at Weltalls comment about the Windows and Linux 0.5 clients being ready for a long while now makes me think that maybe we should look at our Mac playerbase a bit closer. Maybe do a survey and consider how important it really is.

Unfortunately, building for Intel Mac is a bit of a moving target, and I don't personally think that that ppc mac should be supported any longer. Maybe consider going to release on Linux and windows, and put a message up about difficulties encountered with building for Intel Mac, and that developers and testers are needed to get an OSX client out.

Also, on the same lines, a lot of people are not asking just what will be required to run 0.5. From reading up on CS1.9 (the engine), its quite highly specced, and I suspect that some peoples machines may be incapable of running the client without disabling significant areas of the graphics and shaders. My machine is apparantly considered minimum spec, and it has an AMD64 3000+ CPU, 1Gb RAM, with a GeForce 6200 256Mb card. Anything less than this is going to have considerable difficulty running 0.5.

Yes, a wipe is sorely needed. The amount of "dead" accounts and characters in the db at the moment is unreal, plus the game is getting very unbalanced stats-wise at the moment. Not just that, but if what I hear is correct, then the next version of the game will format the db in a slightly different way, and the overall alterations coming up are probably going to be huge anyway.

The only thing I would request is Reserving of Established Guildnames. To qualify, the guild should have been active for more than 3 months, and still be completely active ingame, with the leader having been recorded as logging in at least twice in the month prior to the wipe. After the wipe, the Guildname is then put on "reserve" for 3 months, so if the leader returns and re-creates their guild, they can have the name back without arguments. Also, should the guildleader choose not to return, but they know former members wish to re-establish the guild, they can contact a GM and have them handover leadership status to whomever is suitable.

It was already my plan to start a new char even if a wipe wasn't done, deleting my old chars, so I could start afresh with the new quest system, as I like to think that I am primarily a quester.

What about Kore Clamod?

How come they dont get a mention or role in this?

Are they outcasts?

General Discussion / Re: The Correct Description
« on: September 18, 2009, 09:36:09 pm »
What I cannot understand is why people say they are wearing cloaks, when they aren't actually available in game, and thus you cannot physically perceive someone as wearing one.

The only concession I have made to people having to use their imagination when looking at a char, is my daughters char, as I want her to be perceived as just a child in game, as she is in RL. (she's 6, but already plays quite well), so her char description is "you see in front of you a female nolthrir child of around 8 years old, and you wonder idly where her parents are".

OK, apart from that then, what about crafting rock picks? An Idea?

It was just a thought, but I was thinking that it ought to be possible to not only equip a rock pick in both hands (as you can do at the moment), but have them both effective when mining. Maybe have that so it only kicks in at say, level 10 mining and above.

Also, you can obtain a Master Crafted Rock Pick in game, but I was thinking it would be good if it was possible to craft your own picks, so you could have a q300 pick, that maybe has a better chance when mining?

Linux Specific Issues / Re: Offten client crashes.
« on: August 06, 2009, 07:33:35 pm »
This is known as the "Leaf Bug", and affects the Linux Client badly. Further down this forum, someone has released a rebuilt version of the client which also removes the "sticky Road" bug as well.  You would do well to read that thread.

small update from me

I'm not being on freenode irc, because i have got a new ISP, which is not loosing every tenth packet and thus has much better response time.
But apparently my new ISP is an ass#%$^ and they are blocking freenode irc connections, so i'm not available through irc
I'm working to solve the issue, but it may be impossible ;\

Maybe this was a different kind of a problem, but we will see what kind of problems my ISP is preparing for me.

Have you contacted your ISP and verified that they are blocking port 6667?

If you go to freenode.org, you will see that they are available via a number of ports, and it might be worth trying some of these as well.
However, going back to your ISP, Its not normal for them to police the various ports, and if they do verify that they are indeed blocking this port, you need to ask why. Explain that you need 6667 for the IRC protocol, and its just not fair play to go around blocking ports that are used by other internet protocols.

The other thing to try is a cgi-irc connection if all else fails. Also, check that its not your adsl router that might have a firewall/NAT up. Obvious, I know, but even the most technical of us forget these things sometimes.

Linux Specific Issues / Re: Stupid error while compiling
« on: July 07, 2009, 01:03:53 pm »
I run this on Arch Linux reliably, and updated both the CS and cal3d AUR pkgbuild scripts. However, the CS build script does not account for the sticky road bug. To remove that, you need to run configure, then edit the jamconfig file, and change optimisation to -O0.

To install PS properly, first off, install the downloadable linux binary package, which will install itself into /opt. DO NOT RUN IT.

Then build cal3d from the pkgbuild, it will install into /usr/local.

Then manually build and install CS -- you need to install system wide, so remove the switch that tells it what dir to install to when running configure, then edit jamconfig file and change line for optimisation (cannot remember the exact key) to -O0 (it will have -O3 in it beforehand) before running make.

Then download PS client from svn, and build it in your home dir somewhere as user, but DO NOT install it.

Copy the psclient binary into /opt/PlaneShift, replacing the old client binary. If you did this right, the dir should have data and art subdirs in it.

Now, planeshift starts by using a shellscript placed in /usr/bin, that needs to be modified to point it to the new CS and cal3d libs.

Mine looks like this:
Code: [Select]
#!/bin/bash
cd /opt/PlaneShift
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/lib/:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
exec ./psclient $@

I hope this will be of some help to you, its what I did to get the client running reasonably reliably on my system. If you need any help, please find me on irc as bonzodog in #planeshift and #archlinux.
