I know this is an old thread but I have a solution if you still dealing with this issue, pukor_

I have a T61 as well.

I do not recommend installing the intel drivers.

you have to turn off the thinkpad driver protection thing.  Its either in BIOS or whatever comes up when you hit the blue button during startup.  Then you will be able to get the intel one to work.
