Development Deliberation / Re: Blockchain based PlaneShift
« on: June 18, 2024, 03:39:56 pm »
I think the big problem in this thread is the blockchain itself, the whole conversation would be much easier if we just talked about decentralized mmorpgs.

Totally agree.

Implementing the use of some blockchain technology could be useful with things like game currency and item ownership, yet it would bring with them changes to game play in my opinion. There would likely be two camps where one camp supported those consequental changes and those that would not.

For example blockchain ownership keys could bring a 'pay to win' aspect to gameplay. On the ethical side it could  incentivize gaming farms and potential abuse of minors. Perhaps this could be dealt with in some monitoring fashion. There are likely solutions out there as games like WoW have seemed to deal with such issues to a successful extent.

Without the abuse, for me, it would be great if that great smitty could be paid in a currency that could be sold to others who may want to buy some smitty item. The NPC merchants could be a nice sink or source of the currency. The NPC Merchants' sell/buy pricing algorythm could be based on crypto tokens/coins/currency currently minted in relation to items with identified ownership on the blockchain; thus managing inflation and deflation as a central bank might.

The NPC transaction could then decide to delete the payment from the overall supply or keep it in a purse to future pay outs. That purse value could then weight the prices they offers in their buy and sells.

Just off the top of the head suggestions for blockchain implementation in an MMO.

As to the open sourcing of Planeshift, not much content is yet the world code is. At east a number of years ago it was running nicely on my desktop of the time. The library of the game mechanics are not open sourced and available yet all the hooks are there to do so if memory serves.

Greetings Ancients as well as Youngers!

Dropped briefly into the game, for the first time in a long time, after installing the game software. Venorel finally looks her Ylian self!  \\o//

There are some questions about what is worn and what one sees, yet that may find an answer in game.

Someone has been busy since my last visit. Kudos!

Hi,
I see very little forum activity these days. Is that due to the new tools like Discord?

Just killing some time, while pslaunch is updating things over wifi, on this visit. It is has been some time since being active in the game, yet your youtube updates offer a nice peek into the progress of the project.

A market visit seems in order.  8)

The Hydlaa Plaza / Marketing Suggestion
« on: December 03, 2019, 10:01:41 pm »
The proliferation of YouTube Channels' stores, selling hats, coffee mugs, etc. using the Channel's logo made me think that that may not only be another easy revenue stream for the project but also great marketing for the PS Unreal launch. After getting a T-Shirt from roll20.net some time ago, it surprised me how many people commented on it and we actually connected online. As far as marketting goes, it worked!

Complaint Department / Disappearing Mobs
« on: November 13, 2019, 05:54:09 pm »
Now what is one of the first things a new player is likely to do and do so on a regular basis?

Kill Mobs!

Somethings must really be done with those time out mobs. A new player may invest all they have in potions and/or ammo only to have the monster disappear moments away from death and that desired loot drop. This is annoying to me somewhat at my level and takes me out of immersion yet to a new player/character it would be hair pulling and enough to think this game is bug ridden (which by and large it is not).

This was brought up at the last Dev Q&A and it was brushed off suggesting that it may be dealt with with the Unreal release. It is hard for this programmer's brain to see how Unreal integration is going to fix a bug in the NPC code, yet it has literally been years since having the code compiled and running on my site and my guess is that that bug is likely hidden in the database equations at any rate.

My feeling is that this should be given a top priority as it distracts from the game in so many way.

While looking into this fix one might consider only sending the dead mobs to the Death Realm once the time has been met and the attacker is out of range of the corpse. Rushing against time to get the loot can be anxiety generating. Especially when they are hard to re-target for a plethora of reasons.
