General Discussion / Re: New PlaneShift Release 0.5.5 !!
« on: December 16, 2010, 06:31:30 pm »
Greetings and Thank You!

I am still very new to PS and not very technically adept unfortunately. I also have a lousy system that doesn't really meet the required specs to play the game well, but I still love it!

I had been traveling the last few days and was unable to spend anytime here on PS, so what a great surprise it was to see that something was most definitely different. I noticed some very odd visual effects happening to areas of the "ground" and the terrain all appeared to have become a bit different too I have not been into the city yet, and now I'm anxious for the server to be up so that I can venture out and investigate.... I think that some of what is happening on my screen is undoubtedly because of the underwhelming capability of my processor and graphics gadgets or do-hickeys (see the tech "NOwledge" problem! ;)

OK, I'm rambling, but just wanted to say that I am very grateful to all of you who continue to work so hard creating this fabulous world of Plane Shift. THANK YOU and Merry Christmas!

General Discussion / Re: Why do you play?

Dannae!

Great question...I am so new to RP, but thus far have really enjoyed it and find that it causes me to look at some of my own personal quirks in ways that I might otherwise be able to avoid.

For instance, I enjoy the world of PS and the freedom to roam and explore but sometimes I'm not in the mood to interact in RP but wish to wander, ask NPCs what I can and find books to read. I have worked on some PL too, but mostly so that I won't be a victim (if that's possible in PS) and so that I can heal. Otherwise I usually look forward to running into a player that I have "met" in PS or to meeting new characters. I usually ask a lot of questions of other characters, trying to get a handle on just who they are and how they think...

I find that friendships among characters can be simple most of the time, but as in RL, there are some who are just not interested in being friendly. That is fine too, and makes the experience more realistic.

I have only been here a short while, so I have not knowingly formed any alliances that may work against each other and therefore my character. But, that too is like real life and being "the new kid in town". In time I hope to remember other characters more readily (looking the same can make it hard at first!) and keep our history more intact!

All in all, I would say I am here for the RP and have been more than pleasantly surprised at just how civil and generous other RPers have been. This is an amazing medium through which to explore interpersonal relationships "virtuallly".

Thanks for the question Dannae, and the friendship ;)

I must thank you all again for your responses to my plight.

Yes, this is a cheap laptop and I never intended it for gaming...but now I have been sucked into RP and do not currently wish to spend my hard earned cash on a higher end laptop. ::|

However, I have a friend with a desktop model that is older, but may have what it takes to run the games I desire. I'm coaxing him to bring it to me a.s.a.p. and perhaps that will solve my dilemma. If not, I could hope for Santa to be extra nice  :P

And, as for local nerds, I have at least three of them trying to find some way for me to run an older RPG on this already and I must say, they are not looking hopeful.

So, I'm crashing every two minutes today and after having such a nice experience last night, getting involved in an unexpected attack, meeting other players and having some fun with RP...as I said. I will persevere ;)

Thank you all! \\o//

Not every rat has a hide good enough to loot. You may have to fight several rats to find at least one.

Please note that there are different attack stances. Read the "Player Guilde" on the PlaneShift website (expand the left column) or in your local installation, or in the PS Wiki.

Thank you for this advice. I find I have much to learn and lot of mistakes to make! I will persevere  ;)

Thank you so much! I thought that my system met the minimum requirements, but alas, I truly know far less about that end of things than I'd like.

Also...is it possible for me to do anything to upgrade this gfx card (Intel 4 series) of which you spoke?

Thanks for the link too, I'll see if I can find my way into the game somehow! ::|

OK, I've updated my driver, checking for updates with directx. I've looked around a lot on this forum so I don't bother someone with my "foolish" questions.

First of all, where exactly (please spell out for someone who has NO idea what all the programming jargon means) do I go to update PlaneShift. I thought I should be OK since I only downloaded it about 3 days ago, but when I look for a place that says "Update" I have not been able to find this as of yet...

Secondly, when I "join" the game, having only just come from the training/tutorial area, my character can only walk for a short ways before the game freezes and a small window opens on my screen saying something like "psclient.exe has stopped working". If I then reload the game and start again, the same thing happens, over and over and over again.

Finally, I have looked into my system, hoping that I have found any and all information which will satisfy your needs so that you can answer my question without a lot of extra "coaching the fool who doesn't have the tech-knowledge". Below you will see the stats on My laptop and I do hope that someone here will be helpful and even polite.

Thank you, truly. I live in a remote area, taking care of an elderly woman 7 days/week and I would love to have "somewhere" to escape!

Thank you for that, really!
Funny thing is i suppose that my bare hand(s) must have finally done the job, because the rat died, but I was unable to retrieve it's hide? Think I died a few times though...creepy!
Thanks again, very much :)

OK, hi all. I'm very new and NOT a tech savy player at all! I have tried using "/attack" and pressing "enter" after I have higlighted the one eyed rat and clicked on the blade that also says "attack". The only weapon I was able to equip myself with was the rock pick I got and it seems as though I just rock forward and back doing no damage to the dratted rat!

Please help me to better understand just how these commands work? Is everything to typed out, etc.

I tried to find the answer and I am very frustrated at this point and haven't even gotten truly started.

Thank you for any help here.
