Linux Specific Issues / Update planeshift on Linux imposible
« on: December 18, 2011, 08:11:44 pm »
Hi all

I've been trying to update Planeshift from the program itself since a couple of versions back, however in the end I had to manually download the 700+MB installer and reinstall the program as the update servers are always dead or not responding, this is what happens specifically:

Note: I'm usign Linux 64bit

http://planeshift.clevertech.net/Updates/  >  404 - File or directory not found. (the same for clevertech and clevertech2)
http://ss9.us/update/  >  404 Page Not Found

This are the errors that the program outputs:

Yesterday I saw my son's windows machine updating automagically to 0.5.8.1 and I was like "What the heck!" After some checking I saw that he's using only one mirror: http://194.116.72.94/update/ which works perfectly, I tried to use it but found that it only provides windows files and not linux64 files.

So, questions are:
- Why Linux mirrors are dead?
- If linux mirrors are dead why not to post files on some file hosting service or P2P or something else, it is a lot easier download and install some 100mb than downloading 700mb and reinstall from scratch, specially considering if it consists of a minor fix of a few kb files
- Why the server that hosts the windows files does not have the Linux files also?
