Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game / update available, but no permission?

I've just downloaded the game to my mac, and I can't wait to try it out, but whenever I open the launcher, it just says that there is an update, but I don't have the correct permissions to continue. Any ideas?
I've tried opening the game directly, but I just get to the login-site and then it says the connection to the server failed. I could really use a helping hand, I'm not that good with the technical stuff
