Linux Specific Issues / Re: Linux installer crashes

I'd suggest to check the md5 checksum, a corrupted installer is the only thing i can think of.

Lyosh will do his best to be in town and also to provide some game to be cooked!
[Unfortunately I am unlikely to connect at 20:00 CEST, fated to miss events like the weekly market :-\]

General Discussion / Re: Plans to change stat leveling?
« on: July 15, 2016, 03:06:08 pm »
Why not removing the trainers at all and use only PPs instead?
If we consider them as an "effort" estimation that the character put into any activity, then it's up to the player to choose what kind of effort was it, thus the stat raised. If i say that my character mainly used his strength for doing whatever he did (striking with the rock-pick, drawing the bow harder etc.) then his strength will be increased, otherwise if he toiled for a long time and kept himself motivated, I'll raise endurance and will and so on.
Harder results will still reward much more than effortless ones, but without the annoyance of what looks like a tax that may penalize somebody's favorite activity because it has little market.
Please leave the money for material goods and services and unbound the personal improvements from them!

General Discussion / Re: Absurd empty loots

Actually, according to the setting overview, a mortally wounded corpse should quickly vanish and reappear in the Death Realm, so you cannot play with it longer than few seconds. This unless True Death through mechanics is introduced, which would totally kill the game itself (apart few invincible PLevelers).
It could also explain why there's no time to loot everything from the prey, however I noticed that empty loots are much more common when moving or interrupting the attack, that's something that I have to do when switching from ranged to swords. I don't know if I'm triggering some obscure anti-cheat feature, anyway such thing would need to be DOCUMENTED!

I personally wish it to raise as much money as possible, to pay for servers and even sustain the great work. Some OS projects raised enough to let somebody work on them full time, while still remaining free GPLd software.
What neither me nor anybody else wants to see is premium content, which usually is directly related to unpleasant grindfests. "Buy some fancy stuff and skip some endless boring process" is not accepted.
This game is unique and can be great. Some grinding can fit the RP environment as the time needed to train for some job or skill or just earn the living, it just doesn't have to be unpleasant.

I don't know how far has the power creep gone but for my character, that has not been played as a full time job, it takes 20 arrows on average for a Tefusang (considering that some disappear in the void).

You are being played like a cheap fiddle. The reason for the variable rewards is to make you keep clicking at your mouse ( a very boring action in itself ). If PS were smart, they would find a way to make some money off of this.
PS will only make some money when its quality will bring a larger player base to make donations, which is the opposite that grinding does.
As soon as they'll cheat on anything that has been told before and ask for money to ease the grind or any in-game content... well, time to compile the server and play at home, because the player base would instantly quit and disappear.

General Discussion / Absurd empty loots

"How was the hunting"
"I run into a large herd along the road, I got 20 Tefusangs and 4 Marfusangs before running out of arrows"
"Good, you must have brought a lot of stuff then"
"I have 4 Tefusangs Claws, 7 skins, 5 teeth and a Marfusang hearth"
"Well if mathematics are right... where is all the rest?"
"It... disappeared. Half of those beast had nothing to loot"
"I see... it must be some magical equilibrium broken again, maybe something called RNG"

Seriously, doesn't seem rather unreasonable that half of the times they give no loot? 9 Tefusangs over 20 gave nothing (some others gave multiple items) and also 3/4 Marfusangs, which are still hard to kill for my hunter.
A beast hunted with bow and arrows that was alive until few seconds before, why shouldn't it reliably give most of its parts? I can agree on not giving everything everytime, an organ may be too damaged, but this way is rather unpleasant.
A medieval hunter went after a hard or dangerous prey because he knew that he would have been rewarded by all the prey had to offer.

Weeel not like you could see what happens 1 km away from your spot excactly so i think its fine.
Well not like that such range is more than 200 meters, arrows won't hit something I cannot see. Next time check in advance.
Yes this is a bug.
Thanks, should I report it on bug tracker?
I also noticed that character throwing animation is not triggered in that case.

Wish list / System messages range should match the maximum bow range
« on: July 06, 2016, 09:45:44 am »
I noticed that when attacking with bow and arrows at long distance I can only see the NPC's animation, health decreasing and read of the practice points gained, but the system chat tab won't display what actually happens nor the damage dealt until my target comes much closer to me.
I think that system messages are an essential part of the interaction even with 3D graphics, like old roguelikes. They should not miss because they allow immersion as much as animations, other than help evaluating the combat performances.

This looks like an amazing thing to me, the only thing that concerns me a bit is the total removal of crafting techniques books given by NPC. Trainers don't list you all possible recipes during the quest, which means that with the currently small playerbase there's the risk of never finding the recipe you want within reasonable time.

General Discussion / Re: Economic Suicide.

I don't get why a new player made currency should help. I mean, why should I or anybody accept it since it won't let me interact with the setting and probably anybody else?
I can understand a pure RP reason like a parallel black market or a whole "shadow society", but still it would remain good for a niche while what the market needs is a larger customer base.

Great and diffused welfare, small potential market, lack of necessity. This is a recipe that would cause prices to fall, even to disappear, even in real world market. People generally tend to behave like people even when roleplaying.
With abundance of wealthy characters that have no need to satisfy and lack of a large customer base that has some need, it's actually natural to create such situation.
Why shouldn't I give it for free when nobody can give me anything that i really need in return (unless it's just a greedy character)? And why should I pay as long as somebody is likely to give me it for free? Yliakum looks like an utopian world right now, it would probably change as soon as a larger customer base (new players) will show up.
To shake the market right now some king of necessity could be added, for example food. If I need to buy it for eating then I have a reason to ask for some money. Then let's say that higher quality food gives greater/longer lasting benefits, so much that somebody has a reason to put some effort into cooking because he will sell at higher prices than a NPC would do.
These are called a black holes, something where value (money or items, makes no difference) have to disappear because food would be a non optional consumable.

Now somebody could argue that he can already do that as pure RP, but since I'm not a good RPlayer I need game mechanics to drive me and probably the market does too.

Maybe one day I'll apply for the rules team and I'll try to propose and balance something like this.

Actually I'm playing now on a Radeon Mobility HD4850 with mesa drivers, full HD and maximum settings. And it's mostly smooth with good fps.
FOSS drivers, especially for AMD, have improved so much during last months, and let me enjoy a card that's not supported anymore by proprietary blobs.

I had such an issue too because I misunderstood the exact meaning of a word in English which is not my native language ("upwards" was not accepted, the executioner was picky here).
Exactly the same for me: "above me" not accepted. English is not my native language too but i think that the meaning was correct...
