I'm not quite sure what you're getting at Phinehas. Personally, I think you're taking the contents far too literally. A great deal of the Explorers' prestige in the past came from doing things just as this - getting to places not easily reached, far and wide, high and low. We are the 'Explorers' after all, it is our namesake
I've been a member of both PS and XG since June 2003. I have a great knowledge of the world and our community. I've seen many come and go and I've learned quite a lot in my years here, but one thing I've never lost is that itch to get to places others only look at and dream of. Places that would be fun to stand atop and shout to the world. It's that same feeling that brought me to the Explorers all those years ago and I don't see myself letting it go anytime soon.
So to sum it all up, to me personally, yes, climbing that tree was a beneficial accomplishment and necessary skill to myself as an Explorer. I hope many others think the same, as they are the imaginative minds I look for in a recruit.
