This is one of the hot topics, if you say the wrong thing it turns out bad for you. Still id like to say a few things about the moderation style of this forum and how i think it could be improved.

I heard more and more complaints lately, about posts or even entire threads, that get deleted/closed for no or no rational reason. At least that is what those people tell me, but i cant really talk about that matter, since i dont know the contens of those posts and threads and i dont know about the reasons the mods had to delete/close them. So the basic problem is: if a post/thread gets deleted/closed, noone knows why the mod did that, just because the mods simply dont tell.
Now here is the salvation of this problem like it is done in some other forums i happen to read occasionally: if a post is abusive, spam, against the rules.... delete the \"politically incorrect\" parts and post why they were deleted instead. Furthermore warn the poster for his behaviour, so that he will be banned for say 3(just a random figure) incorrect posts.
The deletion of threads is another, in my opinion very bad, tool for some mods. Many people think of it as a kind of censorship and once again dont understand why certain threads had to be deleted. This is why this \"solution\" should be used very, very and i mean VERY scarcely. Instead you should rather close the thread, while posting a reasonable explanation as to why it had to be done. Remember most threads contain at least a bit of useful information and should therefore remain.

Those ideas are neither new nor are they mine, but i thought id bring them to your attention, since they seemed to work very well for some other forums.

If you don\'t know how to use IRC
or can\'t figure it out for yourself, we probably don\'t want you in our guild anyways.

Sounds a little harsh now, doesnt it?
Knowledge how to use irc is not necessary to join the Order, just post on our forums and we can make an appointment to meet in-game (if you can get it running).
If you dont know how to use irc but want to participate in our channel there are tutorials either on the irc-clients page (MIRC  for windows users) or on the forums for your favourite flavor of linux

Well, what can i say? I like alliances, but they are of no use, if the members hardly know each other and can therefor not really trust each other. Sure, the more neutral guilds are allied, the more power the alliance would gain, but then again the bigger the alliance, the harder it gets to make decisions and to control the whole thing.

So what is it i want to say? Alliances are a good thing as long as they are not too big, have a purpose and are close knit.

You dont need to buy a hd, but only the case. The good thing about that would be, that you could carry your files around for example trade some mp3z (yeah thats kind of legal where i come from, at least it isnt illegal, if you bought the original cd and if it had no copy protection) or other stuff. Back your system up on a regular basis.....

Did you get a decent dvd drive with the pc?

I really wonder how siemens can sell a pc like that without a good dvd +- r, +-rw drive, especially since it seems that you mustnt open it.

You better go ask your dealer about this warranty thing!!

@elscouta: Poor you, scouty. How long did it take until you got a new one?

Well i got another idea for you.
Maybe you should invest in an external hd case for usb or firewire or even both. That would cost you about 30?, whatever that might be in pounds.

Another idea would be, to bring the entire pc to your dealer and let him insert the hd.

Anyways what are the specs of your new machine?

p.s.: Silly idea to seal a pc. I would expect a little more service after having payed 1.3k.

I can access it as well, in fact it has been rather fast the last times, maybe that is because there are not that many members browsing it.  :D

Thank you for bringing that to my and everyone else\'s attention, it\'s a great opportunity to learn new things.
This initiative has to be supported.

EDIT: I just found out they even have a cognitive sience department, with well over 50 papers published, this is paradise for every interested student.

Shame on me, you were faster than I was, but it\'s good that this thread got started anyways.
We in the Arcane Order were thinking about necessary criteria for Spellcasting and think that there are a few more, that should be considered, while thinking about the spells themselves. These criteria would be:

Casting time: how long does it take to cast a certain spell. This would be especially necessary if it comes to interruptions while casting, which would lead the spell to fail.

Duration: How long would a spell have effect on things and/or people.

Target: A certain spell will only be castable on either things or yourself or certain areas....

Story: we thought about some rare, high end spells that would maybe have some kind of story, about  how they were invented or rather discovered.

and last but not least

Skill requirement:  certainly an apprentice like me will not be able to use every deadly spell there is, so there has to be some requirements concerning the knowledge of the arcane arts.

That were about all we came up with, some of them may be considered miner details, but others are certainly worth considering.

Btw.: yeeha my first post!! :))
