as i quickly lost interest in reading most of the replies cause i guess i just got tired of reading threads like this from other games ive played... well, i decided to skip most of what was said so if someone already mentioned this, im sorry... just a disclaimer.

anyways, how many D&D games have you played where you sit outside of the dungeon and look for gems on the ground? i would hope not many... if even any. i know id just walk away and watch tv or something if that happened.

but surprisingly... some people actually would rather somewhat i guess... do that. i come from the game of everquest, and i would guess that a few of you might as well also. the game as im sure most of you would know you have to get experience in order to advance at all. that can be boring. raiding gets boring also. i can tell you right now that if you really wanna make a good game is to have a really good story line, and to be able to do some unique things quite often.

a huge bonus would be to have a storyline that is interactive with players. players in the game would actually have an effect on the storyline itself.... this of course does mean that developers would be working quite often to do this... but that would really make the game very enjoyable.

now, about experiencing again (sorry for getting off of topic)... the developers would need to find a way to where everyone, with experience or not, can advance somehow with their character. the best way i can really think of is that the character could have anywhere from like 1 to 3 or so main skills and he can advance when he uses those... much like asherons call (though i played long ago when it first came out so dont know how it is now). everyone likes to do different things, some like to go out and kill, hunt, trade skills, look for things... my favorite is thievery... i like stealing things from people hehe... well, i refer to it as collecting!

from what ive seen there have been 3 ways introduced so far to mmorpgs for character advancement...

theres been skill points only (ultima online)
theres been leveling (everquest... though it did had skills... but they really didnt mean much)
and then theres been an attempt to combine both (asherons call)

they just need to decide which route they wanna go... and try to make the best of it.

sorry for the long post! i just guess... im hoping for a good game worth playing to come out!
