Indeed. Many of us are still around. Nivard is even in game. Forums are and always have been the best way to get in touch with someone from the Order.

Exactly. IRL we have horse power, IPS we have pony power. Makes sense to me!

Or we could just get approved. ;)

It would be kind of counter-productive for us to develop our own rules while also trying to contribute to the PS Community! :P

Then again, a little competition never hurt anyone! ^^

All we would need to do to Neryam\'s system to add in theory would be to have two stocks instead of one. You would have your skill/adeptness/ability bar and another bar for theory.

Theory goes up when you learn something. There is a high probability of you learning something when you are taught by a teacher, and a smaller probability of spontaneously being inspired on your own.

Skill goes up when you apply knowledge. There is a certain probability that knowledge is taken from your theory bar (making it go down, i.e. \'un-applied\' theory bar). This probability might be arbitrary, or it might depend on the ammount of knowledge you have stored, for instance, going up when ideas are so abundant that they simply beg to be applied. Theory might even be applied without actually using the skill (it has been shown that this happens in reality under certain conditions).

Also, if you\'re up for some light reading...

There are, of course, examples of how the option could be mis-used, but then again, you can say that for most options that make a game interesting. The idea is that it can be used towards the betterment of fun. (I support OOC chat as well for this same reason.)

I definitely agree that we should try to convert the world to the roleplaying side in anyway possible though.

I guess I\'m thinking about it like I think about drinking.

[imo]

We want people to drink responsibly. Some people suggest having a high drinking age (certain functions are only available to GMs or are not available at all), but does that make people responsible (make them good rpers)?

I say no. My approach is to lower/remove the drinking age (allow these functions) and to promote responsible drinking (good rping) through good parenting (\'making it worth it\'). And for those that don\'t? Go ahead, just don\'t let your irresponsibility (poor rp) affect other people (ooc griefing) or there\'ll be consequences (GM/AI wrath).

My position here is that we should,

a. Be tolerant of other\'s fun whenever possible, even if we don\'t understand/agree with it.

b. Avoid withholding options when what we really want is their responsible (rp) use.

Instead of N maps using LRU, you can just have the maps that you can access loaded. Say your zone has 3 portals, then those three other zones would be pre-loaded.

I was about to start a thread on a similar topic though, so instead I\'ll just post here. I\'m having problems going between zones since it\'s so easy to slip between the two. I suggest making two one-way portals instead of one two-way portal. How does this work?

.....[...|...].....

In this primative illustration, the \'|\' represents the current one boundary system. The parens symbolize the suggested method.

Using the one boundary method, you switch zones (and have to load them - ick!) every time you cross the line, so if you accidently move backwards somehow, you end up going back into the zone you just left.

To fix this, we make a right boundary for people travelling to the right, and a left boundary for people travelling to the left.

This means that once you step through the portal you are transported into the new zone, but to step back into the zone you just left, you actually have to turn around and walk/run/fly/etc. some arbitrary distance to get to the opposite boundary, thus removing the slipperiness.

^^

It is a good ooc function to have though.  For one it will help evenly disperse players who choose to use it (i.e. the people many \'rp\'ers complain about regularily around here).

I say if it increases someone\'s enjoyment of the game without nessecarily reducing the enjoyment of others (the supposed \'majority\') then go for it. (Even though I personally follow Karyuu\'s philosophy as well.)

One needent update the map all the time. Just put the tunnel in one update and stick an NPC called \'Rock wall\' in it that only takes damage from pickaxes....
