Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game / Same problem
« on: November 17, 2003, 01:28:27 am »
I\'m running on the the problem as Nairion. I had an old Voodoo3 Card, where PS could load, but the performance was very poor.
So, I acquired a GeForce4 MX420 64MBDDR card, installed the latest (52.16) drivers and reinstalled and updated PS. it locks up while Initialising World (10 secs after the prompt) and states the same DLL: RAPID.

Please someone help. I dont think is about the install files, because it worked fine before.

I\'m running a TBread Duron 1.4GHz, 384MB in XP sp1.

Regards!

First of all, welcome to the PS community! Feel free to wander around and read the posts, mainly the excellent Newbie FAQ from Moggie.  :))

Well, it seems that one of the parts you downloaded is corrupt. To be sure it is not true, you\'ll need to use a MD5 verifier. Goto to the PS download page again (www.planeshift.it/download.html ) and look for the MD5 tool at the botton of the screen. compare the signature of the files if the numbers posted there. If some is different, you\'ll need to download that part again.

But if all the files are Ok, the only way I (and, I think,  anyone that come to this thread) can still help you is by knowing your system specs (hardware and OS). So, write it down, please.   ;)

Good Luck!

Hi Kasarugi!

Quote
I shut off all my power turned it all back on, ran it, but it would load up then go to a blue screen for just less than a second, then shutdown.

If you are still trying to run CS and you are still getting this message, you should be aware that it seems to be a STOP fault. You can check your Event Viewer for more information or disable the auto-reset function in the System properties. To do so: Open, in the Control Panel, the System  icon; select the Advanced  tab, and click on the Startup and Recovery  Settings; there, under System failure , uncheck the Automatically restart  option.
Now, when you try to run CS again, you\'ll be able to see the error message.  :)

Oh, and yes, I downloaded all the CS parts with the unreliable save file function and it worked OK.

Good Luck!  8)

Hi Djeki! Hi Pussycat!

Just as completion of Mogura\'s post, you can check about file corruptions using MD5 signatures listed at the botton of this page:

www.planeshift.it/download.html

There, you can also download the MD5 verifier.

Good Luck!  8)

Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game / Environment Variable?
« on: September 07, 2003, 01:05:29 am »
Hi Folks!  :)

I\'m not sure if this thread should be posted here or in the Newbie Section... I apologize if I made a mistake.

I would like to understand the message that appears when I run the CS client, just before entering in graphic mode. It is as follows:

no CEL environment variable set!
Using alternative 3D driver: crystalspace.graphics3D.software
Warning: Failed to load \'csddsimg\'; use \'-verbose\' argument for details.
Warning: Failed to load \'csjngimg\'; use \'-verbose\' argument for details.

One more warning line is shown, but I could not caught it \'cause it changes too fast to graphic mode. I just could see that\'s similar at the preceding two warnings.

Can someone explain that, please?  ?(
Thanks in advance.

Hi Babrook. I got the same problem, so I may give you some clues.
I have a Voodoo3 3000 16MB AGP card that worked fine for me (till I find this game   ;) ). If I try to run the game in OpenGL mode, I get a white screen (what should be the splash screen). Few seconds later, three buttons appear and, if you are running fullscreen, the mouse pointer is gone.
I found (in my case) that the GLide from 3DFx is not compliant with the OpenGL plugins of the game. So, I managed to run the game in Software (Safe) mode but, in my 1 GHz Athlon with 256 RAM its is toooo slow (about 2 to 4 fps). Wandering around the forum, all the advice I got is to chege my video card. Thus, my GF4 is arriving this week.  :]
I recommend you to do the same, and get more RAM too. The FAQs talk about 300+ RAM to run properly.
Nevertheless, you can always check what video card you have in the \"System\" Icon in the control panel. There, click the \"configuration Manager\" and browse the tree to find yor Video Adapter\'s name.
Good Luck.

Thanks for the reply, zabeal.

I\'ll try to be a good boy and wait as long as it takes  :] .
Well, it leads me to another question: will it take all this times regardless the Internet connection I have? I\'m using a 320kbps ADSL... wouldn\'t be supposed to load faster?

Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game / Load-and-crash
« on: September 05, 2003, 03:08:30 am »
Hi Folks!

I downloaded the client yesterday and most I\'ve done till now is to read the threads about the loading problems. I passed the linkdead problem and now I\'m struck when the client crashes when \"Loading World\". I\'m using a 1GHz Athlon, 256RAM and a Voodoo3 3000, driving on XP SP1. Since I could not get Glide to work (the three-button-only problem), I trying to run the client in software mode. Can you give me some clue? :(
