Yes, a lot of already possible with configuration tweaking (or even config file editing), and some is not (like the move forward + mouse look thing) and that\'s great. It should of course be easy to use by default, though. However, what is easy to use will differ for people, so that\'s complicated. ;) This sort of thing is harder than you think to get right and I\'m sure professional companies have whole teams dedicated to it. :P

I was only just saying it, because I\'d want to see improvement for the future and this is one of my current pet peeves. Great developer feedback so far.

Great to hear. I have a 19\" TFT screen, and play my games on 1280x1024. I\'m sure that all these issues will eventually be fixed later on in the future. I really want to see this project succeed, whether I will decide to play it or not! You know how it is, with time constraints. ;)

Hmm, I haven\'t tried that yet, as far as I know. I did drag the little square at the bottom-right to change the size and that didn\'t help. I\'ll try this. In the meantime, I hope this report has helped, but I\'m sure it was already known. Hope you can fix it!

And then we have the matter of the font in the menus. As you can see the letters are too large to fit.

Okay, here\'s your screenshot. Don\'t know what\'s going on here, but it should be self-explanatory. You can also see that I\'m in the Death Realm and that it\'s basically too dark to find my way. I\'ve fallen down and I am unable to get out now. :(

I see. Well, I\'m very glad that the controls and gameplay is still being worked on. This is the first thing that you come across when you start playing and it should be very comfortable! Planeshift used to run horribly on my P3-800 GeForce 3, but now it runs okay (not great) so that\'s already a lot better. :) I sure hope Planeshift keeps improving!

Thanks for the replies. That clarifies some things. I still find the controls a bit awkward, but I\'m sure I could get used more to it.

As you seem to know Morrowind, the controls in that game are okay. The mouselook is pretty good. I\'m looking forward to the day when PS supports proper mouselook, if that day may come. I think it would be such an improvement. Obviously, a lot of people are fine with the current controls, so whatever. Besides, lots of MMORPG\'s leave a lot to be desired for the controls, in my opinion. Even the commercial ones, like DAoC. But controls in World of Warcraft are a treat!

Just thought I\'d post my thoughts on this. In the end, all feedback leads to a better game, right?

EDIT: I\'ve started the game and tried out certain things. For example, I\'ve changed the strafing keys from A and D to Q and E, and turning to A and D like World of Wacraft (and most other games, really). Now, using TAB for mouselook mode, it\'s already a lot better! One thing that puzzles me, though, is that you can\'t use mouse to look around when you\'re walking. This is one of the easier features around! This way you can run away and look behind you at the same time.

Also, personally, I would really consider making run the default. I mean, you run more than you walk in this type of game, right? It\'s faster. :) I hate having to hold shift to run.

Yeah, I had figured that one out. :) But it\'s still not right, somehow. I should post screenshots, but I\'ll get more into Planeshift soon as it seems a lot more playable this time around.

If I just could get used to the controls that is...

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the font is too big. It gets cut off at the bottom as well. Is this related? And is there a fix? Now I really have to post a screenshot, I guess. :)

Hi,

I was wondering what thought went behind the decisions of the current control scheme. I just couldn\'t figure out how to move my character and the camera in a comfortable way. Maybe I\'m just spoiled by World of Warcraft, but I had to both use WASD *and* cursor keys *and* mouse/middle mouse button to get what I want. That is, strafe, turn, camera movement. Am I just daft or is the control mechanism still being worked on? If so, maybe you could consider something like World of Warcraft\'s? ;)

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) / UI bug?
« on: November 26, 2005, 06:46:37 pm »
Hi,

I haven\'t played the tech demo much, but sporadically over the years, and it\'s become pretty. :) However, something has puzzled me what seemed like an UI bug.

I play the game at 1280x1024, full-screen, and the group of buttons on the left of the screen (those that can be resized) seem to be weird. The bottom buttons are cut in half. Is this known and am I just being annoying by posting about it?

Actually-- I\'m a noob, but I\'ve kept an interest for Planeshift for years. I died one and went to the Death Realm (great concept!). I really couldn\'t find my way, because most of all I saw was completely black! I can\'t believe that this was intended, because I was basically blind. I fell down stairs and everything. Now I can\'t find my way out of the Death Realm and into the realm of the living.  :D

Maybe I need to try harder, before I start whining, but I just thought it was weird. There have also been some other bugs, but I\'ll post them in the appropriate forums.

So it looks like the downloads on the site are corrupt and have been for a very long time (I have tried before). This is bad. It doesn\'t make the Planeshift team look good. What\'s the deal here? I\'ve been keeping up with the Planeshift development over the years, but when they make it hard for me to do so, eventually I will lose interest.

I\'m not trying to attack anyone. I\'m just pointing this out.

Hi,

It is like it says in the subject. I\'ve downloaded the Windows client multiple times, from all available mirrows, and every time I try to install it, it says it\'s corrupt or incomplete. I have no idea why this is happening; I have an up-to-date virus scanner and it claims that I am virus-free.

When I bypass the the CRC check with /NCRC, it will start unpacking, but every time it bails at the same position with the error that the package is corrupt.

I can\'t imagine a virus corrupting it as I download or run it. The real-time protection of Norton Anti-Virus is enabled and the definitions are up-to-date. I doubt that I have any spy-ware installed, since I think before I click, don\'t use Outlook and use Firefox for a browser.

The md5sum output is:

1ab762f4a5b5015a19a51ac00ded4554 *PlaneShift_CBV0.3.010.exe

Is the download on the site (and mirrors!) corrupt? I can\'t imagine it is, but it seems so. Is this a known thing?

EDIT: Apparantly it is, because I posted too soon. This thread talks about the same problem:

http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=17083&boardid=17&styleid=3

So what\'s the deal here?

Thanks for your help.

Man, I played this unbelievably hot Ranger-babe. It\'s like, the only reason I went to play it. I was prancing around with my bow and it looks *so* hot! I just *know* I\'ll be staring at that ass all day when the game gets released.

Oh, and it was free of course. :D Otherwise, I didn\'t think it was that much FUN. Very good graphics, though.

What\'s the use of a massively multiplayer hack \'n slash game, anyway?

Well, does it keep a log? I can\'t stare at the screen the whole time hoping to catch error messages.

The CRYSTAL and other environment vars are set correctly.

CS/walktest segfaults as well, by the way.

Whoops, forgot to select \"email notification.\" Hope this enables it, since editing my original message cannot do it.
