Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game /

yes, i understand what spyware is, and i guess i mistook it for else at the time, but there\'s a few programs out there that you can buy to reduce/eliminate spyware.

as for the problem with it disconnecting or whatever, i think when i checked for it to shutdown when it finished, it may have figured that that meant when it was down the current download, and not the remaining four, and instead of shutting down, it may have rebooted. I\'m not exactly sure, but i\'m reading up on it in the readme and other files that came with it (I actually read those things, unlike some people). Anywhom, thanks to this great program, i have downloaded all 5 files successfully, and am now testing this game out.

Well, this is a new computer, and is clean of my credit card number or anything like that (i don\'t have a credit card, don\'t wanna be $4000 in debt). i have nothing really to hide from spyware. When I installed it, it did say that it was free of any trojans, viruses, etc., so maybe there\'s a version beyond what you thought that fixed all that. I\'ll tell you though, i used it and i love it. you can schedule a download session, so all i\'d have to do is leave my computer on and then just go off to work and it\'ll download sometime in the middle of work...

well, i let it run overnight, and told it to download the 4, and shutdown when it finished, but i\'m not sure what happened, because it downloaded the 4th one, just not the first 3. (order of operations said do the 4th one first). I guess maybe i have to set a time for each download or something... it never shutdown my computer, not that i\'m aware of, but it may have rebooted. when i checked it the next morning, it had finished the 4th one i don\'t know when, but i had that little message in the bottomright saying \"connection has been established\" so i might have disconnected in the middle of the night, or rebooted, and when it came back on, it decided to connect (it does this sometimes.. it just picks a random time that i\'m offline, when i wish to remain offline, and then all of a sudden the little \"connecting\" popup appears...)

well, let me tell you the results: I may have discovered why my downloads wind up short. the server who is holding them goes down every hour or so, and cuts the download short. your computer thinks the download is done. download manager, who then pauses the download until the server is back up, in like 30 seconds or something, knows it\'s not done, and resumes later.
well, it\'s ashame it didn\'t do quite what i expected it to do, but what it did do turned out fine, and i have the correct 4th copy.

no, i did not use any special program to download them other than what came with my computer (just the normal downloader, not really a manager). I have no ability to pause the downloads, and hence did not. it was a straightforward thing. I\'m curious though if it had anything to do with the fact that I downloaded the other 4 downloads a day before the 5th and reassembler. I also used my beloved ibiblio mirror to download all 6.

Edit: I went back to the downloads page, and seeing a note at the bottom that said \"make sure they are the correct size\", I did so, and realised that the 4 failed ones were less than half the necessary size. i\'ve had problems before with win98 56k, if i download something large, it only downloads some of it, and not all of it, for some odd reason. i got a new modem with this new computer, still 56k, but that seems to be the case again. perhaps if i leave my computer alone while downloading the files i won\'t have the problem...

Well, i\'m redownloading the other 4 files, and I hope that at least 2 of them return successful.

Yup, i got dialup, 56k, took me te 7 hours, but i can\'t wait to play the game. The first thing I ran into after I downloaded all 6 files, ran the .bat, and then ran the exe is the ever dreaded NSIS error. I downloaded the friendly md5 file, and checked each file, and realized that all but the 5th file are all incorrectly numbered.

I\'m not gonna have to download these 4 files again and again until i get all the numbers to match up, am i?...

let\'s see, 5=7, 4 = 6, 3 = 4, 2 = 3, 1 = 1, it should take me another 15 hours... no fun...
