a couple of years ago i really enjoyed stuff like fist of the north star, sixth point of the star, vampire hunter d,  ...
when i watch them now they\'re really cracking me up. only 2meter muscle guys and a couple of 20 cm high,  big eye girls :) still fun to watch though.

i really loved ghost in the shell. it\'s also funny to see how the matrix actually put some of that style into a \"real\" movie.

what i\'m really looking forward to is ghost in the shell 2. i\' m glad it\'s actually being made.

backup your netman.dll from your PS-folder and copy the netman.dll from your windows-system folder (system/win32 i think, depending on what windows you run) into the PS-folder.

the game should run now.

but if you then want to run the updater, you\'ll have to remove netman.dll from the PS-folder, run the updater and then copy the netman.dll file back and overwrite the newly created (by the updater) one.

that\'s what worked for me.

!!!!do not delete the netman.dll in your windows-system folder!!!

why don\'t we take the newspaper idea a step further. as i see different people have different views on what a paper should look like, or even what it should be used for.

since editing an in-game newspaper would need a small, easy to use text editing tool anyway, why not make this tool available to every player of a certain profession (e.g. a scribe). that way a couple of devoted people could run their own newspaper, sell space in it for advertising player-run shops, guilds, whatever and also sell it in the streets for some money. everyone could try to bring their idea of what a paper should look like to life and there\'d be some diversity on the newspaper-market.

the better the paper would be, the more people would read it and the more money could be taken in for ads. this would create some competition, and a well known paper with lots oif readers would as well be a small instrument of political power.

also this small text-editing/writing tool could be used for all kinds of creative use by the people who are able to work with it (probably really job-dependent). like:
storytellers writing in-game books (probably also selling them), guilds sending out memos, flyers, advertising leaflets, .....

does this idea appeal to anyone else besides me?

actually my point was NOT to use the newspaper for small notes like: \"lvl xy basher looking for mage to identify magical sword. meet at tavern at xx:yy o\'clock. will pay!\", but to use a pinboard at e.g. the plaza for that. i just don\'t really like the idea of a magically updated newspaper flooded with personal notes. but that\'s just me *shrugs*

but i\'d love to see a newspaper implemented, where there are mainly stories and such, as well as paid for classified ads like:\"tureg\'s armour shop. huge choice of high quality items at lowest prices in town. 3minutes walk from center plaza.\" or \"guild a announces that after hard negotiations we\'ve reached an agreement on a peace treaty with guild b. the war is over!\".

i just hijacked your newspaper idea and suggested the way i\'d like to see it implemented there. sorry ;)

ah, now i see. the way you imagine the newspaper, would be more like an ingame forum. (i thought those two different ideas). as i understand in your kind of paper a char would go to an npc fill out a form with what he wants to put in the paper, pay for it, and all the papers in the world would instantaneously add the new classified ad for everyone to read as soon as it is written.

that would definitely work for finding parties, you\'re right.

the way i thought of a newspaper, was more in the way of a real newspaper, with stories and all. at least some other content than just forum-like messages, which would need editing and would therefore not be published in realtime.

what about using something like a pinboard in a tavern or the plaza to communicate like in a forum. with people putting up their notes, people being able to read them, and if they get too old they just fall off?

i really like the newspaper idea. on the mud i frequently play (ancient anguish) there are 2 player-run newspapers which add a lot of depth to the game.

but since a newspaper needs real editing and story-writing, i don\'t think it would be the right means for people to find parties. if i want a group to go hunting i would want that right away, but as i said putting together a readable in-game paper takes at least a couple of days (a daily paper, although not impossible, would need LOTS of devoted people).

still merchants could use classifieds to advertise their shops, guilds to recruit new people, etc.

as i imagine it, the main part of the paper could consist of stories about memorable events, background stories about the history of the world, interviews with renowned heroes of the realm and such.

about the concern of the paper beeing flooded with classifieds, because of so many people playing: an ad mustn\'t be free of charge.

just my ideas :)
