It\'s a Limitation in Planeshift MB.  It\'s mostly an engine Optimization and Map Optimization problem.  It should be at least Partially fixed in the next release ^.^\"

I Managed to get ahold of an Nvidia card, 128 Mb.  It worked and initialized GL mode just fine.  The old card I had was a 64 MB ATI..  So um..

Now i\'ve gotta lower my Resolution until my system can handle the Gigantic Skyboxed map at a reasonable speed ^.^\"

Thanks for the help of All :)  Ja!

I had been, for a while, thinking of designing my own MMORPG, which is what drew me to Planeshift in the first place.
I was toying with the idea of using a .bsp style map format.  Crystalspace uses a Format with similar limitations to .bsp.

This brings me to this cause of Slowdown.

The two primary limitations of such formats is Laaarge open spaces and Skyboxes.

As I was browsing around in the game, I saw that Planeshift uses Both large Open spaces, and is Skyboxed.

I have experience with Quake, Doom, and Half-life mapping, and having this experience, I\'m inclined to advise Separating the map into multiple smaller maps and Not just make it all in one big box..

On a separate note, I\'m a 3D mapper (not modeller and not (really) level designer (well, kinda), just mapper) and would be interrested in doing that at least part time for the Planeshift team, but I didn\'t see Mapper or Level designer on the position list..

Yes, I am curious about the spaw, too..

As for Moving vs. Reposting, Not a problem..  A single copy//paste is all, and from what I understand it\'s easier for you to delete than move  ^.^

Most people complain about world somethingorother.. Well, I\'ve got a different problem that seems rather rare to be posted about..

I start in GL mode and I get an Exception error. Hold on, lemme go do it to get the exact error..

\'The instruction at \"0x77f585c0\" referenced memory at \"0x8a000000\". The memory could not be \"written\"\'

I click OK and I get:
\'The instruction at \"0x00000000\" referenced memory at \"0x00000000\". The memory could not be \"read\"\'

I run it again, the Address in the first message changes but the instruction address stays the same. The following output is produced by the -verbose command switch:

C:\\Program Files\\PlaneShift>psclient -verbose

Well..  If ya find a good HQ Tracker (or install one) you can Post a bittorrent link and Update it every time you change versions.  Remove the old links and so on..  I would be more than happy to contribute a seed to the tracker, Especially if GL mode ever decides to let me use it ^.^

I think a .torrent of the file would be Quite useful as well.  Save server bandwidth ^.^

Pardon if this is at all outlandish of me..  But it seems that it would be prudent to Include a LinkDead check before Character creation..

Also, I\'m not sure this is the right place, but I\'ll post it anyway, I think the Default Launch icon in the start menue should point to a script that will Check for updates with a \"--silent\" switch to check for updates, Then download any if nesecary, then after all that start the client.

EDIT:

Came here \'cause I got a linkdead error, Posted this, Tried some of the fixes, Made a new Character.  The Quickie creation workses, the Custom creation Didn\'t workses.  I\'m of a mind to share the oppinion that that is possibly at least part of the cause..  *considders goin\' by sourceforge and mucking thru code to see*  This thing is on Sourceforge, right ?
