I had that problem, just enter the server address instead of the name of the server. Worked fine for me after that

I\'m a little puzzled as to what your actual problem is...I never had a problem creating a \'custom\' character aside from the name already being in use. But that was usually due to the fact that on previous attempts i had already created a character with that name and it was already saved to the server, but do to some error when connecting or something else, I did not realize i had actually succesfully created a character...this is confusing me even as i type it.

I\'ve been browsing the tech forum and pieced together that this game seems to have it in for Radeons. Running it with software rendering helped me some and i just downloaded the new katalyst drivers so maybe that will help. Always make sure your card has the latest drivers. And if all else fails, fiddle around with the cfg opengl file.

I have a radeon 9700 128 mb video card, and even on the lowest detail settings have been having bad framerates and clipping issues...but i found that using software rather than opengl has a pretty positive effect.

OMG...Nevermind...the address was wrong...in one post it said 203.81.47.27 instead of 47.74...heh, thanks anyway...btw it\'s really creepy how many people have viewed this since i posted it like 10 minutes ago.

Howdy Howdy Partners! I\'m new to planeshift. I\'m running a P4 2.4 Ghz, 128 mb Radeon 9700, 512 mb Ram, errr...am i missing something important? anyway. I spent the last hour creating characters and yelling at the screen. I continue to get the linkdead or server is unreachable errors. No firewall or anything of the sort, changed compatability to 98/me, tried using the numeric address for the server...I\'ve tried everything it seems to no avail. Any suggestions that i have not seen would be greatly appreciated. oh well, i\'ve had fun with character creation. Mad props to the dev team. I love a game with depth.
