General Discussion / I want my old name back!
« on: October 01, 2006, 09:45:51 pm »
I have been playing Planeshift on and off for about 4 years now (since the crystal-gathering days). After a recent hiatus, I started playing regularly again about a week ago. My original character, Maestro Daemonslayer (originally just "Maestro," since last names were not originally implimented), has been seen my many people. I recently joined a guild, and felt very welcomed by everyone. I was glad to be back involved with Planeshift.
Well, late last night (around 1:30 a.m. PDT), a GM, who shall remain nameless, appeared and forced me to change my first name. He said titles were not allowed. While I spent the better part of an hour protesting, this GM was quite adamant that my name was problematic, even though I have never heard of anyone having problem with it before. The name "Maestro" is what I use for every PC game I play, whether RPG, RTS, FPS, MMO, or what have you. It IS my online persona. It is not vulgar, and it expresses my personality, as I do happen to be a teacher (Spanish definition) and a conductor (English definition). I was forced to change it to Masetro by this GM, or it would be randomized.
Look, I understand the whole "follow the rules" thing about role playing, but I think this is ridiculous. My name is my identity, and I do not want some random gibberish to be MY character. Further, my character's lineage states that he is the son of a teacher--the name seems reasonable to the world of PS.
Any GMs out there--I want my name changed back to Maestro Daemonslayer, or else I will no longer be a part of PS. You will lose a loyal adult member who plays fairly because of one GM's need for micromanagement and inflexibility. If any of you other players have any problems with my first name, you are welcome to cite it here, and I'll be gone, but if anyone wishes to support my desire to change my name back to its original form, please also feel free to reply here, and let the GMs know that my name is not a problem with you. Thank you for consideration.
