Newbie Help (Start Here) /
« on: March 09, 2004, 11:09:54 pm »
Do the server notice differences between capital letters and small one? I tried Euler and euler. I use the password I think I had, but with Euler it says that there is already someone with that name, and with euler it gives me linkdead (I have read about, Don\'t need on explain about linkdeads). when I use the removing tool, the two of them are valid so I can\'t remove them ,not even connect.

Thanks for the help and for the game!

General Discussion /

Well, Axsyrus, it?s not the same I\'m talking about, it is excessive to become a member just for donating a song or some dialogs (said, a barman\'s dialogs). When you create a virtual world you must develope a lot of stuff like images and audios. If there is someone who would bring a lot of them he/she would become a member because of that amount of work, that\'s not a little donation. But I\'m sure that there is a lot of people that could help doing little work here and there and don\'t want to become a member.

This thread is not exactly a wish but an advice for developers to take advantage of fans\' potential work.

General Discussion / Collaborating things goes faster
« on: January 05, 2004, 10:53:17 pm »
Hi everybody!

Probably this idea is not new, but is a good one and I\'ll try to be constructive. This goes for the DEVS spetialy.

My idea is very simple: I think that you (developers) can save a lot of work by opening some web pages for stuff related with the game. With this I mean that there could be a lot of people who wants, for example, a npc having their voices; you could create some kind of contest giving some dialogs and receiving a lot of sound files with people voices playing those roles.

That just an example, but you can do this with music, textures, architectures, maps, books, maybe cultural files like poems or popular song, or what your imagination sais. Of course, you must put some rules, and explain people what you want: \"this npc must be an old dwarf\", \"the music for this dungeon must be sweet and have some surprising moments to give fear to players\", \"the architecture of this city must be like the one seen on but try not to just copy it\", etc, etc.

You (devs) must see this just as a big data base where you have a lot of stuff to choose. If you don\'t want something don\'t take it, if you need the map for a city and you don\'t want to do by yourselves take one from there, if you heard some melody perfect for some dungeon just take it, etc, etc. This is just to save time, people do great work making mods for other games, why not just take it from the beginning.

I hope this will be usefull for you devs (specially after reading this all, sorry, I talk too much)

Well, I don\'t know how much time i will have for this (examination time is coming), but I\'d like this thread to be a general discussion about the laws in PS too, not only about how to bring justice, I haven\'t heard nothing about them for the moment.

In fact, I think that the players must be those who do laws in this world and the devs must heard them. There may be different laws in different countries, of course, but we can choose those differences too.

I have no legal suggestions for the moment; I wait until I see if the idea have some following. One advice: the funniest thing of the videogames is that you can do what you can\'t in real life, don\'t be so hard doing laws.

Well, even if the jail is administered by the server there won\'t be a problem. The player will surely disconnect if the only thing he can do is just walk a few steps.

some idea for the guard job?

Wish list / Laws and justice

Hi everybody!

There is a proposal I think would be of great interest, there will be some laws in Planeshift, i supposse. Well, what about creating some city guard job or even judge. i don\'t know how a judge work would be but I can imagine how guard job could be. You would receive some log when connecting with a list of crimes commited and not resolved and your job would be to find those criminals fight them and, after defeating, give them to justice.

The other players could look for those criminals, as rewardhunters. There could be the same log as the guards receive in the city hall, what everyone could see.

I have read that the moderators of the game will throw players out so easily because the server won\'t have too much capacity. I think that better than throw out people, they could punish them by blocking their characters. This way, when they connect, they would see their character in a prision everytime for hours or days if the crime is too bad.

Well, KwartzTheKran you are right, there\'s a lot, but each one speak about some concrete aspect of the events. There must be a thread about events in general. If there is some say, but if not, this could be a good choice.

Hi there!

Yeah, I hope there will be events too, that\'s the funniest thing in the videogames, but events are quite difficult to program, what if things don\'t happen as the programmer thought? I expect dynamic participation in this topic because is very interesting.

As a little contribution, I think there could be some predefined events like some ritual in the temple every sunday or something like that. Have you play some game where the time passes (like Morrowind or GTA)? It gets so boring when all the days are the same.

Wish list / As in real life
« on: January 04, 2004, 09:45:28 pm »
Hi everybody!

Sorry if I talk too much, but I have a lot to say.

I suggest, not only for languages topic, to use the real life as the first example to solve problems about this game. As a roleplaying game it must be see like a real life simulator, so let\'s see what real life is like.

In real life every people around you talk the same language you do, except for outcoming people. If there are more than one official languages you will find that people at shops or service buildings in general used to talk the language you use to start the talk. And when you go to a foreign country you use to speak in english because it is the most speaked language, the common language we could say.

So what is Planeshift like?

I see this world as a total mix of cultures like every place in Earth was some centuries ago. I mean there were foreigners everywhere and a lot of languages in each city. So, why not take advantage of all the cultures the players will come from.  I have proposals of two kinds, for npcs and for (what is the acronym for...?)players.

1. For npcs:
Well, I suppose that there will be some amount of npc at every place  each with some predifined dialogs. I propose to open those dialogs to the public and ask people to translate all the dialogs they want in the language they want, and to send them back to the developers (this is a general advice for developers: try to make people to colaborate asking them for things like this, or textures, music, voices, architecture, etc, etc; you can save a lot of time of working).

Of course, the developerse will choose from all those translated dialogs what to use, in real life you won\'t find salesmans who know 20 languages. The english would be the common language, and there could be cities or countries with other official languages like spanish, german, french, and so; languages with a lot of people who knows them. And why not, there could be countries or cities where no english were spoken, this must not be a problem. When you head to a country whose language you don\'t know you try to use english first, or you make some friend who can help you with it. Well, why not in the game?

I request some participation of minoritary languages. There could be some npcs who knows some of those; it would be very cool to find some npc speaking your motherlanguage even if it is very minority (those could be ancient languages or something like that).

2. For players:
I don\'t see any problem with this. I will speak in english, but if I find someone who knows spanish I will speak in spanish with him/her. And if I find a place with a lot of german speakers, I try in german with the bit i know.

I don\'t see necessity for the game or the server to translate nothing via software. And I think that the only language option (in addition to the interface language option) that would be of interest is some option to set your default language for all the npcs (if they speak that language), but with the posibility of choosing it for some concrete npc, for example: I would choose spanish or german as default, but if there is some npc speaking bask (euskara) I want to know and speak in bask with him/her. And of course, I see ridiculous to use diferent servers for diferent languages.

Thank you very much for your time!! (if you have read the whole document)
