To come back to the topic: Ryzom beta2 looks really neat and their client engine NeL is not as hard on the CPU as MB.

However, we wouldn\'t mind it if you guys shipped over additional servers.  :D

So this is what Fragnetics calls a \"small donation\"? ;)

Thanks everybody for your helpful answers.

They\'re donating bandwidth, so this is their issue.

Does the PS license allow the to charge players for playing? Or to plant an advertizing bot into the chat system?

General Discussion / Server cost
« on: January 18, 2004, 06:25:01 pm »
These may be a stupid questions but I did not find answers to them in the FAQ and a quick search in the forums.

Will it be possible for anyone to run a PS server?
If so, will there be enough players on some to make playing PS fun?
And how will the server providers compensate the cost involved in hosting servers with lots of players using a lot of bandwidth 24/7?
Will the Planeshift team continue to run a server after a beta?
Is there a way to give small monetary donations to the Planeshift team?

there will probably be different servers with different rules in the future, as a PK server, a server without unrealistic elements like /tell, etc.

That would be great :). What I would like most: A Server with combat between different factions and without combat within a faction. Call me a Hack\'n\'Slay guy (I don\'t consider myself being one) but PvM, Quests and consensual PvP in arenas would not satisfy me. That said I\'m going to read the PvP board now :).

I could neither find a forum designated to PvP nor an \"official\" PvP thread in the forums. Could you please give me a hint where I should look?

Art is copyrighted to avoid that (like desing ideas)

I read the Planeshift License and understand why things are handeled that way. Once PS has matured into a competitive MMORPG, I would love to see different flavours of the game with the same models and items. Very unlikely with the current license. Well, maybe it\'s better this way.

Wish list / Game Design Decisions
« on: January 10, 2004, 06:24:25 pm »
The devs do an awesome job and put countless hours of work in Planeshift. There are people in the dev team that know a lot more about MMORPGs than most of the players do. Still they ask for our ideas to integrate into Planeshift.

In the early stages the Planeshift team comes up with a new version and people go \"wow!\" but as the game matures there will be players that would like things slightly different than the devs make it, leading me to 3 questions:

1) Will there be polls about important game design decisions like the kind of PvP that will be featured?

2) Will the code of the game be clean and modular enough for developers to implement ideas different from the current Planeshift roadmap?

3) If so, can something be done against too many different versions of Planeshift splitting up the community? (I guess the answer ist: every good shard will have it\'s own.)

Still, this refers only to what has been done, not to what is going to be done.

Sorry, I may have put it badly (English not being my mother language). What I meant was I would love to read anything about the next step in the project. Wouldn\'t need to be a complete roadmap nor too specific (\"spoiler\"). Just something like:

Next release:
- Model and Animation for another race
- Testing weapon wielding
- Falling damage, dying, respawning.

I\'m new to Planeshift and I must say it is not easy to tell wether the project is being worked on or not from what I could find on the web site. I agree it\'s a bad idea to estimate any dates for the final release, because it would put a lot of pressure on everybody. But I would love to see a little info about what\'s the next step and when it is hoped to be done (+/- a month or so). I promise I won\'t be disappointed if the team would be way behind that schedule. But such info would make me feel more in touch with the project.
