you could also learn the skills required on how to become a ps dev. Then you could sit around making ps better.

also, don\'t your walks through the forest seem relaxing? Im sure if you just set off into the bush and came back whenever it would only feel like an hour and you wouldn\'t remember what you had done.

Either you didn\'t read or just don\'t understand :\\
Assuming that someone has any skills besides sword, then he\'ll never max it out. He may try to have it as high as possible, but that\'ll never pass the 99.(9)% border. In result it\'ll keep advancing, even if after some time it\'ll be pretty slow. Plus I already said about possible additional experience from quests. That means by role-playing a character can avance even further. And you do realise right now swords skill can be maxed anyway, right?

what i thought that Zellgadess was saying was that if you max out some skills then dont want to max out anymore you wouldnt have anything to do. like if you only did swords and light armour, and didn\'t want to do anything else. and yes i now see what you said about stat increasing, and yes i did know there were limits now, it just slipped my mind.

This time I\'ll just assume you don\'t understand... I said hunting animals for training is sick. It didn\'t happen irl, it\'s absurd and nothing but a hack&slash phenomenon

damn i thought i got it right that time. lol i didn\'t say that animals were hinted irl, i just said that hunting animals would make you better at hunting animals, just like doing somethin would maybe make you better(did i spell this right?) at doing something.

And text based games are so much worse than hack&slash games, right?

realism isnt really real in planeshift. haha but seriously i dont think it matters if an enki can kick a krans head off like a soccer ball, even though krans are meant to be solid, because planeshift is a fantasy game. maybe strength is a gift from the gods and can go as high as the gods let it go?

i dont think it would be a good idea to limit skills by stats. because you could probably grasp the idea of a technique like swinging at sword at someones neck or legs without being able to do it with control from strength. stats could just act as a modifier to the effects of skills, where having a skill way higher than a stat negates some of the skills effects so that getting another 100 levels in sword might really only increase your damage as much as the first 20 levels, but if you had like um agility or dexterity(is that a stat?) high enough to match your sword you could still be always doing max damage and maybe hitting faster.

i think what Zellgadess was saying was what happens if you max out strength for your race and max out sword and reach the maximum potential, so there is nothing else for you to do to make you a better fighter, but Zellgadess was talking about maxing out intelligence and blue way and not being able to become a better caster using blue magic. so its pretty much you max out and have nothing to do, which i guess would force you to stand around, talk trade and whatnot.

with the hunt animals for training, it doesnt matter if you think hunting animals is sick, the thing, the more you hunt animals the better you become(normally), so the more you swing your sword at something, the better you become at swinging sword, even if it is a defensless tefusang. it would be like eating carrots. the more carrots you eat, better you become at eating carrots (ok jk).

wow who votes that watching planeshift develop all this rules stuff like character progression is exciting. These posts here should be like time capsules so that when Planeshift is in beta and some of this stuff is worked out (maybe) then we can like get a collection of all these posts where people were like saying how the game should be a then see who was actually right in predicting how the game would come out. like if Draklar\'s progression system was actually the future planeshift progression system, we could go back and say like \"wow Draklar was right, that\'s incredible\" and then all laugh.

yes james brown that would make more sense and is probably already obvious to devs, but also after a point it should start going from x-30 to (x+1)-31 or something so that really strong players get a bonus of hitting for a minimum of like 5 instead of 1.

yes and it would be cool to see messages like \"you strike at somemonster, but miss completely\" or \"and slighlty hit it\" or \"and land a devestating blow\", and that could be related also to where you hit, like now you can hit on hands and torso and head. and of course maybe different weapon types could have different messages like \"sliced a main artery\" or \"crushed them good\" or \"shot through the heart\".

for the twinking thing where a new player can be given a sword of ultimate chaos +1000 dmg, you could have level requirements for weapons and armour, again obvious to devs, so that to use longswords you need lvl 10 sword or something, so then the only thing that could make a lesser skilled player stronger is who can gain the stroner weapon for their level, so whoever can pay for a really nice sword for their level or whoever does the right quest has a chance to be better than the other, but a higher level weapon will always be better than its corresponding lower level weapon.

for example rusty sword (sword lvl any) < sword (sword lvl > 5) < sword of the storm (sword lvl > 10).

this would be like having spells requiring certain levels of skills such as lvl 5 azure and lvl 3 brown for the spell \'summon flatbread\', where you need azure because bread is kinda related to healing and brown because bread is food and food is related to earth. maybe like that  3 pronged sword used for parrying could require both sword and dagger skills.

and also, an example from a highly addictive RPG game series, in Diablo, certain items also needed certain stats, like bows would need agility and strength, and other stuff would need other stats. This could be used for something in Planeshift maybe. or maybe not...

I like Draklars idea somewhat. dividing the potentials into physical and mental was a good idea, maybe even add an arcane potential, but anyway i think the potential should just act as a bonus to normal experience gaining so that with full physical potential you might gain say 150% normal experience, wheras with no physical potential you gain 100% normal experience. I dont think it would be a good idea to make it so that as physical potential approaches 0, experience gained approaches 0%.

mmm teamspeak is cool, i use it in eve. What people do in eve is corporations set up their own dedicated TS servers and then give out the ip and password to the server to everyone in the corp and then anyone that wants to can log onto the TS server.

One thing i find with TS is when 2 people are speaking at once, it becomes very hard to understand them.

but anyway if guilds/groups/friends just set up their own TS servers with different channels for different things like different hunting groups then you could make channels private and on public channels server/channel moderators could ban people they didnt like. Ingame you just use a spare key on the keyboard such as \'t\' for TS key to press when you want to talk.

I like TS because it lets you know the people ingame better, because you can actually hear their voice, and its also alot of fun using it for the first time.

with the OOC sounding voices, i guess you just dont talk to people with high, squeky voices. OOC sounding voice would be just like OOC text, except alot worse.alot.

or you could go on irc and ask a dev if they could give you a test assignment.

you probably get 3d art assignments by going to the lead 3d artist, who is someone.

the reasons for crystal space were outlined somewhere i think, maybe in the wiki.

But yea crystal space could of been used because it was the best open source 3d engine and was still an active project

ya i like the saying their are two people i hate.. racists and black people.

maybe there is so much focus on racism because their hasnt been a world war in a long time. All the asians and blacks and americans and europeans should gang up and start a massive five way war, then their would be no racism

Ya self defense is alot of fun if you can get them to come at you with a knife then you can always reverse the knife and get away legally without any worry, as long as no one suspects provocation.

But why nuke or poison people, theres very little entertainment in that. Insanity looks good.

But anyway get a good ole small pocs immunisation then take a sample of small pocs to sydney airport with a timed release on it then go home and watch on the news 2 weeks later as there is a pandemic. Or maybe some other virus
