I\'m using a windows laptop with 16Mb Video Ram and 768 Ram, XP2200+ and plays in 1024x768 (without sound) and everything is fine. I dont see why it shouldnt work on your Mini.
And why do you guys always start a mac/win war?

I work & play on my sony laptop, dream of having a gaming system from alienware and a utra light apple laptop for work ... Stop dreaming and go back to work...

the way i understood it was that it was meant to make people react. But noone ever said that the Planeshift\'s Time had to be faithfull toward other games.... After all it is the work of PS fans and i clearly understand why they decide to express how they love their favourite game.... I took a great deal of pleasure of reading it, and look forward to read the 2nd issue.

What about interviewing Guild master about their guild\'s philosophy about why their guild are the best etc (btw for non guild-member, Zelphiriens rocks, others.... arent bad either ;-) )

Keep up the work people!

I like this idea.
On the first MMORPG i played (T4C) we had a force of guards. (Royal Guards where located in the city where new players began their advantures, dark guard could be found in the realm of the necromancer but they do the same policing job and also helped GM to create scenarios that everybody could join). They were players selected by the GM\'s for their commitment to the game and their RP capacity. They had limited admin capacites (like putting people to jail or shutting up people that were swearing over the main comm channel) They could maintain law for 2 reasons: They were way more powerful than regular players since they were heavy players so they could enforce laws, and in case of a big level up causing mess  in the city they could call for reinforcement.  And for course, everybody knew them and respected them cause they had spent a lot of hour playing.

It used to work well.

General Discussion / pvp on the plaza
« on: February 22, 2005, 01:51:09 pm »
I\'ve been playing PS for almost a year now, and of course, I was excited about CB\'s release.

For the past weeks I\'ve been playing a lot every night and I\'ve noticed a growing trend on the plazaa: people challenging you in a Pvp fight.

I simply would like to ask those players why they keep challenging people. Is it out of boredom because they\'ve done everything else in CB?

Yesterday night I kept being challenged (sometimes I could not even chat because i constantly had to decline challebge...) and when asking the concerned player why he/she/it wanted to to fight with me, i never got any answer.

So maybe one can explain me this new trend?

no more no less than other guilds. As far as I am concerned, the Blitzer, the Ordo, the Feline Lair... are \"hidden seperated communities\" as well. (but i reco i never took the time to visit their website, which i\'ll try to do as soon as i can)

I\'m perfectly aware that some players feel uneasy with Zelph speaking mainly french between themselves. Just be sure that every Zelph player really wants to be as implicated as possible in the PS\'adventure. Please be nice and keep in mind that many french people do not receive a proper training in foreign language. But all the french players I know (& as one of the French Forum admin, i know quite a lot) are committed to speak and improve their English as much as they can.

And just to be supportive with Caym, learning English is not as easy as it may seem at the first place. I\'ve been learning it for about 15 years, I lived for a full year in London and spent the equivalent of a second one in other English speaking places and still have some problem.
And even if you speak a perfect Oxford it takes some times to get an understanding of written slang as you sometimes read it on the shout canal.
\"coz I got a STR 45 aint gonna uze me fists\" might be hard to translate to \"Since I have 45 in Strength, I think it might be a better idea to buy a weapon instead of using my bare hands\"

PS is a great projet, and since we commit to it and want it to be the perfect MMORPG (boo EQ, Wow... ;-) ) it sometimes lead to unnecessary tensions.

And final words: yes we wanna be a part of the whole PS community, coz it wont be fun if we were only playing in our little sandbox.

Spyware: the game is OpenSource so Spyware would have spotted a long time ago...

Fun:depends in your taste, and how you play it. It\'s up to you. Try and make your opinion by yourself

Keep it mind that this version is still a alpha version (tech demo) so it is obviously not as complex as EQ2, DAoC or Lineage2...
but it is on its way...

General Discussion / Little bit disappointed
« on: February 11, 2005, 12:46:20 am »
I was reading the following thread: http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=14527&boardid=13&styleid=3&sid=b2650fd53902581cc11a26a3e6ff609e
and was a little bit disappointed by Gronomist final post.

I think she misinterpreted what Willen says. What he says was \'Does all GM have to be English?\' (or say in another way : Does the fact that English is not my native tongue be an obstacle to me becoming a GM (one day and if you guys find i\'m worthy) ?\"

He never say stuff like \'the fact that i\'m french should give me an advantage when trying to become GM\'
First point.

Of course I completly agree with the fact that every GM should speak English, and that every PS player should have a level of English that allows him to understand what \'s happening and be understood by other players.

It has never be a will of the French players to segregate the community and game in two. If you take a look at the official PS French Forum & website (which is in French ;-) ) you\'ll see that we always enforce the fact that PS is an international game in which the common tongue is English   (and not an English Game. Lucas is Italian, and some of the dev come from various parts of the world) and therefore that every French player has to be able to speak some English.

But i see no wrong in helping people in their native tongues when possible. It makes help be faster and avoid any misinterpretation due to the language.

Final point about bragging: isnt it always a risk? GM are committed players, which mean they generally belongs to a guild and know people in the game (guild, IRL friends they convinced to play...) I dont see why nationality should be a bigger issue here than guild loyalty or IRL friendship or \'I\'m-playing-a-Kran-so-I-brag-Kran\' (or Ynwn or Enki or... ,-) ) issues

I guess it is a matter of honesty, and GM are supposed to picked up based on this quality aren\'t they?

Woa never thought my tiny post will generate so much reactions.

The reason why i choose to focus on french forum and not this one is linked to what levski said. There are many small groups on this forum: rp people, dev people, people seeking tech help, infos about cb,... and it lacks unity.

But people have achieved something: no matter what time it is, there always people connected to the game. Even if the app is closer to a chat than a game, guilds created a huge RP. Stories are happening in PS, and i really thinks there might be communities here. The reasons why people join the game might be various: entertainement, seeking for social contact,... but does it really matter? I guess not, as long as people agree on some common rules. It\'s like the real world: we do not seek the same things and we make rules to ensure everybody can live in this world

@ to everyone noticing typo mistakes: thanks. As you might have guessed, English is not my native language.

@Xordan : Yes \"introject\" & \"asynchronistic\" looked curious when i first saw them, but there were used by big bosses in the (rather small) academic world of communities studies. As we said at home \"In Rome, do as as Romans...\"

@Androgos: Thanks for correcting my mistake. I knew it was earlier than 2000, but i couldnt find the \"historical\" post anymore.

@Kada-El: Thanks for the article i\"ll definitly will take a closer look at it (i quickly read it, it looks very interesting?) and will try to integrate some ideas in my work

@Rifft: just check the link, it works fine. You must have Word (or any compatible text processor) to read it. But since it is host in my french school and since they\'re all in holidays, the network might be disturbed from time to time.

@Snow_Raven: yes worst not worth of course. What can i say? oups?

General Discussion / Thesis on Planeshift
« on: August 13, 2004, 05:34:41 pm »
Hi all, for those who havent meet me in the game, I\'m Vorcrean, one of the Admin of PS French Community and Forum http://www.zelphira.com/planeshift

In real life I\'m also a student finishing a master degree at the LSE (London School of Economics) in Information System. In order to complete my master, I have to write a dissertation/thesis (10.000w) on any subject. As a long time player and admin of ps, I naturally chose to study the game and more specifically the french player.

The subject of my work is \"Are virtual communities real communities? A study of Planeshift\'s French Players\"

After getting their authorization from them I\'m now reaching the final stage of my work (50% done). I thought it might interest some of you to take at look at it. you can download a draft of my work at http://eleves.mines.inpl-nancy.fr/~creange/Draft3.doc (160k). I\'ll handle it on the 1st of september. If you have any comment, I\'ll gadly add them (& you\'ll get credit for that of course ;-) )

The final work will be freely available from my website.

[I wish i was a programmer...creatively it seems like the ultimate power

mmm unfortunatly, programmer often means \"code what other poeple designed\".

Designer/Architech is much much more cooler since you decide what has to be done.
