Thanks for the link slabertooch, really interesting study ? check it out if you guys have time.

Btw, I would love to see resources (preferably exhaustible once, like the once pointed out by Bytecon), but I don?t know if the Devs will put them in CB. It would be interesting to se for example ore being transported in escorted convoys from mines to industries in cities.

Mercenaries could be protecting these convoys as raiders are trying to loot them, guilds could gain their own resources to manufacture cheaper goods for them selves, explorers could search for new resources ? sorry for the ramble, but there could be endless role paying possibilities around this idea which.

Before I forget ? er ? I meant inflation in CB, not MB. And it really wont fall because of inflation :D.

I hope I was worried about nothing, as most of you seem to state :). What I was thinking is that, at least in the beginning, too much money (from converted crystals) is going to chase to few goods (those sold by NPCs) causing player made goods to be over priced if the NPCs are lacking any goods. Call me crazy, but this is inflation.

I hope you really mean all  items even exceptional and externally rare ones, but even the destruction of some items satisfies me. *puts some worries to rest*

The prices are only fixed if NPCs will be able to offer the exact same items (in the quantities needed by the market) as players are able to produce. If players are able to produce unique items than the prices of these items are not fixed and they will charge the max they can get, so in the end only the richest echelon of players (those who play the most) will poses these items and the power embedded in them.

You are right about that tangerine, but I thought that the monsters will drop more gold than the equivalent value of items ? more capital as compared to supplies would be generated, giving rise to inflation.

Btw, I was thinking we?ll have a free economy ? would be much more interesting I think, with inflation, depressions, etc.

General Discussion / CB Economy
« on: April 11, 2004, 12:31:26 am »
Is anyone out there thinking about the economy of CB as a whole? I noticed that I wasn?t, up to now. I do not proclaim myself as an economist, but I see a serious problems evolving even before CB is out.

For example, many players will have large quantities of gems converted to tria, but none will have any items to trade (except those from NPCs), causing INFLATION to skyrocket. A possible solution is for everyone to start anew, or to convert only a small number of gems (e.g. no more than 500) to usable currency.

The second problem is that slain monsters will constantly provide players with money and items, again causing inflation. For this the only solution that would provide a stable economy is for the destruction of items and currency to occur at about the same rate as the  creation of new ones.

(I probably should have mentioned this before but by an inflating economy I mean that craftsmen charge ridiculous prices for their items, that real estate will be overpriced, the Mercenary Guild fees are shy high, etc. all of this would generally discourage people from starting new characters.)

Not being an economist I am not sure if my proposed solutions will stop inflation, but it ought to slow it down. I hope the Devs will somehow manage to keep a free economy that is neither incredibly in- nor deflated.

Recently, I had experienced a similar gem incident. I was mildly angry about it, not because someone took a ruby which I was picking up, but because I think that?s slightly disrespectful. That?s the reason why I do not approach a player who is picking up a crystal, or if a player is running in front of me headed for a crystal, I back off. I think this is sort of default respect which should be lent to everyone. A problem similar to this one will persist through out PS, probably for a long time (e.g. slain monster drops items and player scramble to pick them up). That?s precisely the reason why I?d love to see PvP in CB, so that players can duel out their disputes. I know its not a civilized way to handle disagreements, but it would work.

General Discussion / Where did all the shadows go?
« on: April 04, 2004, 09:50:28 pm »
Great work Devs! I was wondering as to why none of the characters cast shadows, and weather they will do so in CB? Although I can?t wait for CB, I would rather see bad approximations of shadows as opposed no none at all. Again, way to go Devs! :D

I can?t nor wont deny the possibilities you have laid out, but I tend to be an optimist. Plus, I?m new here so I haven?t waited too long. Therefore, I still retain some of my sanity (although, I?m running short on supply).  I somehow feel (more like hope) we wont have to wait much longer. :)

This idea just dawned on me. Maybe they are doing all of this so secretly that once CB is released they will get massive reviews from magazines, websites, etc ?? meaning more sponsors, more players ?? seems to me that  this way everyone might benefit far more in the end. Anyway, the dev team has my full faith. :D
Nearly forgot to say: thank you very much Mogura. :D

hmmm ........ i wonder how much of a heads-up we will receive from the devs before the next release and when the homepage will receive the major overhaul in preparation for CB.

PvP,PK and Thieving /
« on: March 14, 2004, 11:16:01 pm »
you do have a point there. not everyone wants to fight at a tavern, some people want to get info and some want to celebrate birthdays (although i don\'t know you, happy birthday Moogie). would this be closer to your cup of tee if you had an option as to weather or not to join this free for all brawl? and if there were times where no bar fights could occur (such as celebrations of all sorts).

PvP,PK and Thieving / fights that get OUT of control
« on: March 14, 2004, 08:29:10 am »
i\'m not sure if anyone agrees with me here, but i\'d like to see fights which get out of control and involve parties which did not incite the conflict. such fights might take parts in designated areas (bad parts of a town, filled with taverns, pubs, and gambling dens), as not to involve those that stay out side these parameters. before such a fight engulfs a player, a warning sign (or sound) might alert the once about to be involved. in these sort of drunken brawls everyone in the near vicinity might be considered as a valid target. the murder of a valid target may not be punished as severely (if the responsible individual is caught) as a calculated, cold blooded one.

i do realize it\'s a very coarse idea, but i\'d like to see what everyone thinks about it.

i\'m not sure if this is wishful thinking, but to me it seems that the devs have been fixing bugs lately. could this imply the second coming ......... er .......... i mean CB? i\'m sure they will have a comment in the history file signifying completion of CB, before it is posted on the site.

I\'d love to have a short spear with a long blade, no armor, and a KUKRI on my side.
(I haven\'t seen a single rpg with a kukri, funny isn\'t it)

I?m happy as this stands. I?ve got some idea now of as how much more complex CB will be, and I?ve got some non-literature related material to get me through chemistry lab.

Thanks everyone.

P.S. I do want to be surprised, I only wish it were soon.
