Heh, mostly when I go to the pub it\'s empty. Once I did go and there was someone pretending to be barkeep and talking to this other guy. But I didn\'t have anything to say so I just stood there and pretended to drink.

Bittorrent isn\'t stupid, and I\'m surprised you couldn\'t find a bittorrent client, considering bittorrent is all over the place. If I recall, World of Warcraft used bittorrent to distribute their client for open beta. As for the original question, download speeds vary depending on your computer and internet speeds. I\'m not sure how large planeshift is, but if you look at the file size and download rate it should give you an idea of how long it will take for download. I believe on my old connection it took around 3 or 4 hours because it was hideously slow.

I agree with the people that want to have maps. It wouldn\'t be that bad a thing to have a map of the main city. I mean, its probably carved into a bench somewhere.  Make them a purchasable item from a \'travelled merchant\'. You could always not make maps of \'wild and dangerous regiones\' which would force players to explore on their own. At the very least, make it possible for players to scrawl written directions down on a piece of paper or bark or something in game. I do get very tired of following the right wall.

Not that realistic. You must realize that most of the races in PlaneShift would almost certainly have some kind of enhanced vision or other senses. Probably because they eat more vegitables. :)

Krayn, not to mention that you\'ll need MONEY for SERVERS and various other things, like a domain name and probably advertising.  Not to mention that the MM part of the MMORPG stands for Massively Multiplayer, which can get rather expensive to deal with.  If you really, really wanted you you could start off learing on/with something a bit less demanding on resources, like a MUD or something similar to help get you ideas into a testable world and establish a player base. I\'m actually reading a fascinating book on MU* in general. Its called \"Designing Virtual Worlds\" and it was written by the co-creator of one of the first MUDs (MUD1, and MUD2) Richard Bartle.  I haven\'t gotten far into the book, I\'ll admit, but I would recommend reading this or one of the other books on this topic before beginning such an arduous project. I actually know someone who had their own ideas and wanted to create an MMORPG but so far they\'ve failed miserably.

I was wondering if there was a place to post about problems on the Planeshift website. Currently the site doesn\'t display properly in Mozilla and Firefox browsers and I was wondering if someone could fix this.

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) / World Loading error
« on: February 20, 2005, 10:49:09 pm »
Hello, I recently returned to PlaneShift after hearing of the CB release. (I had played around for a few days on MB.) So, I created a character, (took me at least 12 tries) and then I after I did that I went ahead and tried to start the game. The world loading page came up, and almost immediately the progress bar at the bottom showed that the world was loaded but nothing else happened. After a while, the program stopped responding and while the window is open the mouse cursor goes under the main part of the window. I\'ve also got several \"server is linkdead\" errors in this phase as well, but my internet is connected and the server is supposedly up now. I would greatly appreaciate any insight on how to correct this error.  I\'m running Windows XP on a fairly decent computer,  in case this information helps.

I would like to thank you both. I elected to go the route of the uberlarge download. Mostly because it took about the same amount of time to do it yesterday, but a little more because it was in parts. That and I\'m already running Win2000 which I neglected to mention. And the almost-technobabble frightened me. ^^;
