Really... so nothing really exactly earth shattering... or world changing happens in the books? I guess any I\'ll go and pick up the cheapest series I find, if it\'s all the same lol

I\'m sure that would involve skill of course... but I guess that may not really let the players really play a big role in determining the out come of the fight.

I think it\'ll be hard to know what to wish for because we\'re not all really sure what we\'re going to get when the game is a little more done...

yeah... I don\'t think that would be a really fun thing... if I just sat there one day talking to people for a long time... and lost all my skills, it would be bad... Maybe if you made some skills mutually exclusive such that learning one skill decreases the other?

it seems like everyone thinks that people who play rpgs to fight pretty much thinks they have something to prove. But I guess personally it would make the game a lot more interesting if there were at least some sembalance of action. I\'m not knocking rping... but I think there needs to be a balance... personally A Tale In The Desert doesn\'t really appeal to me... it just seems too... boring. It may be a very nice game... but it\'s just not for me. I really like the idea of being able to do quite well in this game when you never actually need to fight. but I\'d prefer leveling and etc... I guess that\'s just me though.

isn\'t there some sort of chronological sequence to those books? You\'d think the events of the first novel written would effect the next... and so on and so forth.

How many other MMORPGs out there are totally besides the point. If they cost money... they don\'t count as competition because this thread was about FREE mmorpgs. And besides PS is quite different from other MMORPGs out there because of the community helping thing aspect. It would be funny to see how Blizzard the develpers of World of Warcraft would react if you sent them some of your 3d models.

Myrmidia is no competition at all... graphically it doesn\'t even come close. If they are both free... I\'d rather stick with PlaneShift

Well for all of those forgotten realms fans out there might I suggest you try out books from the Dragonlance series? I suggest you start with the Chronicles trilogy which contains \"Dragons of Autum Twilight\", \"Dragons of Winter Night\"  and \"Dragons of Spring Dawning\".

The Hydlaa Plaza / Forgotten Realms Novels
« on: March 27, 2004, 05:15:35 am »
I am a Dragonlance novel fan... but recently I\'ve run out of books that I really find any interest in reading so I\'m thinking of moving over to another huge series of Fantasy novels... but the problem with Forgotten Realms is that I haven\'t a clue where to start. In Dragonlance there was were clearly marked out novels which were essentual to the reading and understanding of other novels and a clear chronology... I haven\'t found the same in FR yet... are there any FR fans here who know what order I should read these novels in?

yeah... maybe if there was some sort of skill usage meter... where you can use some the charge on the meter to do a special attack you\'ve already learned or something like that... but meh... I guess as someone already said... the combat system is probably already done.

Wow, pre-alpha? I thought it was a lot further than that. It\'s a VERY promising start for a pre-alpha then. Well I guess your probably right about the ram thing. Sadly I use a laptop and upgrades are very difficult and expensive. Well I guess I\'ll have to wait for the later versions.

Newbie Help (Start Here) / Lag problem
« on: March 25, 2004, 04:10:48 am »
I hate to sound all whiny any everything... but I find the game to be so choppy most of the time it becomes impossable to play. I would literally push the left or right arrow to turn... and it would take about 10-25 seconds for anything to happen. Is there anyway to reduce the lag or get it to all work better?

I\'m using a 1.6 gig, 256 RAM, and 64 meg video card for my PC config... using ADSL too...

Wish list / Curious about what people want...
« on: March 21, 2004, 05:26:35 am »
Well... I was wondering... do we want a really neat action rpg with good leveling elements in it? (Like... everquest) or are we going to go for more of a game based on RPing and crafting (like... A Tale In The Desert). I\'m not sure if it\'s really possable to have both as they are totally different styles of game desgin... and hard to be balanced. If this question has already been asked... can I have the link to the thread?
