That is not what Xillix stated at all. It is very clearly written that the server is down until the exploit itself is fixed, not until these 24 hours are up. (Although fixing bugs may take more than 24 hours anyway.)

Moreover, the dev team has every right to just ban all accounts who use exploits without a moment's notice. That they even give the wrongdoers 24 hours to admit their actions is commendable. No, not everyone is going to see this window of opportunity. But you know what, they had a much much longer window previously and they didn't think to take it. So screw 'em :)

Um, what are you taking about? The server is unavailable because the team is fixing this problem, not because they want to punish people. Based on what Xillix wrote, it seems the dev team knows exactly how to tell who exploited, and they're not going to play guessing games.

PlaneShift's current server is graciously donated by Fragnetics. At the moment, the team cannot (and is not likely to in the future) afford to pay for a server. There are no funds for such an undertaking. Fragnetics has been doing a really good job with server stability from what I can tell. All the crashes that occur, occur because of PlaneShift's in-development status and the bugs that it contains.

Plus, the server may be down right now because of an update. I hear on the board that every two months or so a new client gets released, and there is always a downtime of this approximate length before it happens.

People were complaining about the "small community atmosphere" going away back when I played in MB. Things change, guys. No community, anywhere, will ever remain the same over such a period of time and development. I think while it's understandable to miss "the good ol' days" of your past, put it all in perspective. New players coming in today will, in 2-3 years, look back on this and express exactly the same nostalgia.

Try to realize what you're doing - you're essentially sanctifying being mean to someone and lying to them when they are new to the game and not sure how things work yet. "I grew up that way" is a poor excuse for such actions, because you have the chance to make someone else's experiences much better than what you might've gone through. Do you really need that "It was hard for me so I'll make it hard for someone else" mentality? Please let this be an isolated incident and learn from your mistakes.

If that's the sort of community you want to foster here, by all means. I thought that PlaneShifters prided themselves on their eagerness to help newbies learn the ropes, and especially make them understand their first mistakes with patience and kindness. Do you want to chase away potential roleplayers, or nurture them? This was so badly handled and so out of character that I hope it stands here as a shining example of what not to do.

Who says you can\'t mix midieval graphics with futuristic ones? ;) It can be done tastefully. We\'ll be working on it.
