i think praising gods is sort of a bad idea and wouldnt add much to the game.  just my opinion.  im not a fan of religion, belief structures and praying. i also dont see much potential to add to the game by praynig nto gods.

what about seraphs or ascension?

the idea that players after reaching a certain point in their \"life\" and after accumulating certain experiences players can \"ascend\" to a higher plane of existence.  still human.  but maybe like a seraph with different abilities.

im sort of stealing these ideas so i should give them some credit.  the seraph idea is from a game somewhat similar to this one but with much more rigid and unimaginative gameplay called the fourth coming (http://t4c.eacceleration.com)  im not really a big fan of the game but they have a cool idea within the game that players can \"seraph\" and as such have somewhat better stats and skills and can do more.

the ascension stuff is from stargate on scifi

i must sound like a real nerd

i think it would be cool to be able to cast a spell to make a portal to your house.  or maybe an item which creates a portal to your house so that anyone could get home (because anyone can use items as opposed to casting spells) and if you wanted to have people over you could just make a portal for them.  then you wouldnt need to lock your door (but i think that should be an option anyway in case your friends are the type that would steal.

what about this.  say your casting  a shield spell.  if theres a button or something to hold down for casting then the longer you take to cast a spell the stronger it will be and the longer it will last.  so if a mage uses a shield spell on another player as the mage is casting the spell you can see the shield getting \"more dense\" or stronger as he\'s casting it steadily drains mana.  the longer he casts the less it adds to the shields strength so after a certain amount of casting time it becomes inefficient to continue the spell because the mage\'s mana will be continually decreasing and the shield (towards the end of the cast) will not be getting much stronger.  then as time goes by after the spell is cast the shield begins to fade and instead of making the player invincible for a minute or so the player will slowly incur more and more damage as the shield fades.  and at any time the shield can be \"regenerated\" through the same casting process.  the max possible strength and duration of the spell could be dependent on the ability/experience/stats of the mage.

also instead of mana pots just have something like meditation to regenerate it more quickly or have certain items help regenerate mana or health.

also this sort of has to do with the living weapons idea in the other thread.  but to allow greater variation in weapons without having something ridiculous like talking weapons, you could apply the same idea from the casting to enchanting items.  so you could use spells or potions to enchant or charm or whatever its called an item and the longer the spell is cast on the weapon the more effective it would be.  so to change a boring sword into a posionous sword you could add a potion. or to make it into a flaming sword you could cast a spell on it.  to make it a really hot flaming sword you take more time to cast the spell.  or make it an icy sword or invisible sword to seek around with or any of that sort of stuff.  this way you could also make armor that heals you or regenerates mana.  or make items that boost stats or strengthen spells.   but not so much spells that strengthen spells.  that seems too easy to abuse.

those are just some thoughts though.  im new to all of this so maybe im wrong.

i got those files and did the ldconfig and all that and i still get that same problem

[root@192 Packages]# ./psclient
./psclient: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5: no version information available (required by ./psclient)
./psclient: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5: no version information available (required by ./psclient)
./psclient: /lib/libpthread.so.0: version `GLIBC_2.3.2\' not found (required by ./psclient)

even after i run ldconfig i am not able to run the psclient.  i\'ve tried compiling the source several times.  i\'ve gotten hundreds of errors and spent days trying to get it to work.  i guess i\'ll delete this and get the cvs stuff again.

thank you.

[root@192 planeshift]# ./updater
./updater: error while loading shared libraries: libssl.so.0.9.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
[root@192 planeshift]#

is this part of the same problem as the psclient not working?

thanks

9
i\'ve downloaded and configured glibc-2.3.2 and the libstdc++.so.5 file is in the right directory (/usr/lib)

What could be wrong?

Thanks again

I downloaded the one without the source and when i try to run the client i get the following errors:

[root@192 planeshift]# ./psclient
./psclient-bin: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5: no version information available (required by ./psclient-bin)
./psclient-bin: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5: no version information available (required by ./psclient-bin)
./psclient-bin: /lib/libpthread.so.0: version `GLIBC_2.3.2\' not found (required by ./psclient-bin)

thanks for your patience

Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game / lost
« on: March 24, 2004, 02:31:20 am »
I\'m fairly new to linux and i\'ve never done any of this kind of stuff before.  I\'ve been downloading, installing, compiling, changing, cvsing, restarting, etc for the last 24 hrs.  I followed the instructions on how to use the cvs.  For a while it seemed as though it was working.  Then I tried to get the planeshift from the cvs and test teh cel and crystal and now everythings screwed up.  Now i think the only way to straighten this out is to delete everything i\'ve done and all the files and reinstall it.  Isnt there a simple way to do this?
