Development Team Blog / Re: Got Music Department?

Why would we not go for this (http://www.cstr.ed.ac.uk/projects/festival/morevoices.html) it is perfect for what you want (on demand pushed to the client) and you record your own voice samples to build up a profile. No idea why you would think this is like microsoft sam. Sounded like a normal person.

PS. if you do build a profile prolix should be in for sure (has my vote).

Wonderful stuff. Compatibility is probably the most feared thing in any IT company/project. EVE-Online another MMORPG splits the client into premium and classic graphics(possible graphics branch?). This allows them to still support people with slow systems. Also from now on you could do the extra work on newer models and work up from there. I speak for myself only but i would rather see a richer world than have my character making me blind with their sword and armor. Good luck with this, I believe it to be a great step forward (Again..)

I still suggest that you need a new video card. On Board video cards are stupid especially intel ones. If you have a darkness issue then best way to fix it is update the drivers, if that doesnt work use the gamma correction (F11 and F12) and if that doesnt work (and you have a good monitor) switch your monitor to game mode (my dell monitor makes it look better doing this).

Im being blunt sorry if i was harsh. Wow doesnt require much to play, but does require a lot to play it well (bloom etc).

Suggest a sticky for cards that work well with planeshift and driver versions that work well with planeshift. ATI 8.552 works well on my Radeon X1650.

You need a better video card.

First, I played a game that didn't have instances. It had groups of hundreds people trying to kill a boss so that they could finish a quest. It is not feesable to have them in anything but an instanced dungeon or area. Death and RP aren't a problem as you die and come back to life all the time, so do the mobs.

From memory most other MMORPG's with a medieval setting have bosses, EQ/FF/WOW/LOTRO etc... So why don't we have bosses..With phat loot? That would add another dimension to the game. Make another town where there is a cave nearby where a giant <insert creepy thing here> is reeking havoc on the town. Do that and you will probably halve the amount of people at the platinum mine. (hey you could even use the instance thing you talked about in the google tech talk).

General Discussion / Re: I have a formula to determine what level you are!
« on: November 24, 2008, 12:53:39 pm »
That is a pretty bad calculation.

I did:

Total Level of Stats = a
Number of stats = 6

(a/6)/2

Which gives a maximum level of 100.

I'm level 34 in this system.

By the way is there levels IRL?

I would probably think about that in a Roleplaying game Before coming up with this system. You should really be describing how competent someone is...

Is there a command or button somewhere to go to character selection? or even to the Login screen??

I was wondering because this is on every other game i played and i could not find it.

Now if we could have red Klyros with big horns, maybe as Klyros/Diaboli half-breeds, THAT would be awesome.

Yes!!! And an Enki-Klyros mix... Awsome^1,000! Imagine blue cats with scales & wings.

But...Klyros are reptiles. It'd take some sick, twisted mad science to cross them with mammals. o_O;

A Wizard Did It!!!!!!

As for my characters

Theodred (Male StoneBreaker)

I would probably allow as many characters as you want on an account, just limit it to something like 50 or 100 to stop people from overloading the server on purpose.

To stop dual boxing though it would be wise to get transport in, or a spell to increase possible carry weight, or camels or donkeys or something to carry your stuff.

General Discussion / Re: Your thoughts on death and the death realm.
« on: November 11, 2008, 06:37:13 am »
I think it would be best to expand the death realm and possibly have a city in there. The city could be a home city of a new race of ghouls or something. They could worship a religion solely devoted to a death god. I would like the idea of having some sort of sanctuary protected by each of the gods or something along the lines of that. The death realm can be something more than a waste land. It can be apart of the game and people can gain a  physical deformity (Grayer hair, older face, paler skin) from being in there for prolonged periods. (maybe the new race can be deformed (or evolved however you look at it) of another race.

But definitely have a town in there. And a more permanent effect, appearance not stat wise. Anything that punishes a player permanently is kind of pointless. At some point you have to draw the line on how realistic you want this to be, and no matter how hard you try Real Life is not that same as Planeshift, so you shouldn't be trying to model it off of it.

Yeah congratulations, This is another big step for PlaneShift.

In regards to showing the news I would implement RSS on the main news page and then it could be integrated quite well into the launcher.

I would have thought that protocol would be in place to have the mirror for the updater up before releasing a new version... That wouldn't be to hard to do. It would still be separate from the client it would just call the client after it is done. Would mean that EVERYONE who has started the client will get updated and this means standardization of clients and less errors.

General Discussion / New Updater?
« on: November 10, 2008, 05:38:48 am »
I was wondering if people ever wondered about how the updating is accomplished. In other MMORPGS the updater is run before game play to check if the user has the latest version and then it starts if the latest version is on the clients machine. A wonderful implementation of this was done in Lineage 2, Which showed the latest news and media releases as well as being the updater. I was wondering if something like this was planned for the near future..

On a technical note most do integrity checks on first run... Lowering peoples error rates would be a great side effect of this. I would write one my self but the only C derivative language i know is C#.

Something along the lines of the setup program would be good.

What you think?
